Let’s be realistic this season was a consolidation season after the last two years. NP can get rid of the crap -get those wages off the table and bring his players in.
Mid table was always going to be the aim-anything above that would be a bonus.
50 points and we can relax.

I sort of agree. Mid table was my own expectation - and by ‘getting rid of the crap’ I am assuming you mean Diedhiou, Paterson, Wells, Nagy, Palmer etc etc - none of whom I would class as ‘crap’ but I do agree they are/were expensive. However, if we mention those as ‘crap’ then what do we label Simpson as?
Those others were bought at a time when the market was buoyant and money was flush. Simpson came on board at a time when money was scarce and the market was flat - and both Palmer and Wells have made more appearances.
Pearson has done just about enough for me. Just like LJ did before him, but I certainly don’t see in him a manager who can take us to the Prem.

Cutting him slack because of the utter mess he inherited, some people are even more laughable. At least he is trying to keep our best players unlike some.

absolutely and for the comment from bcfcredandwhite about Simpson he has been a terrible signing at £1500o a week.
But the rest I’m very happy with.
And if you think Palmer and Wells have been good value then I’m talking out of my arse.

But he knew the parameters and constraints and signed the contract: therefore, he was happy with those parameters and constraints. He had the nucleus of a squad that had top half finishes for 3 out of 4 years, and took them down to 19th, I maintain that for a manager with his knowledge and experience, he should be doing better than he is, period!

I don't think we should sell our best assets to fund another rebuild and yet I believe the wage bill needs to be addressed before we can move forward. We are stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea here and it will take some serious expertise to extract us from the mess that was inherited by Nigel.

You’re entitled to your opinion, but for the reasons stated I disagree. Many of the players that are our future weren’t part of the team in the previous regime, Scott, Semenyo, Atkinson, Pring , whilst around a dozen were let go at the end of last season. The squad now is vastly different to under LJ, and the wage bill is far less. There are areas I’ve been disappointed with Nige too, but recently even these have begun to improve. The summer is the test for me. We need to get quality in key areas and keep the bulk of our young talent.

Of course he knew, it’s only you that is saying somehow either he didn’t or that posters are claiming he didn’t know, everybody knows this.
However you are expecting progress, most fans are expecting survival or mid table at best.
A nucleus of allegedly an overpaid squad that we couldn’t even give away in the last window.

To quote your favourite response, what proof do you have they are overpaid?

NP only spent money on transfers and wages on defenders in the summer, yet we are one of the worst defences in the league. As a former defender himself, and his No2, I expect better than we have seen so far.

Of course you overlook the fact that those young players were out on loan over the last 2-3 years learning their skills to be ready to play at this level hence they are succeeding in a way, Bell, Towler etc are not, as they were thrown in with no game time!!
They need time on loan as the others did. Semenyo played quite a bit under DH, but now he’s a bit older, stronger and more experienced we are seeing results.

My point is, the thread started with excuses for NP, and people constantly saying on here that his hands are tied behind his back. It was the same for LJ, but in a different way, and all I heard, and still hear is he knew what he signed on for. What I never hear is those same people applying the same principle to NP.
I do think NP will come good, especially if he gets his summer recruitment right. Although his post match comments make me wonder if he will be here….?

Try actually reading fully before replying, yet again I prefaced my reply with ‘allegedly’. But hey whatever Wells, Palmer and ODowda are paid is too much.
Atkinson is injured, Tanner is injured, Kalas seems to have been carrying a shoulder injury but playing through the pain and yet again today Vyner has shown he is not good enough and Simpson is on 15k a week allegedly. As I said in a previous post, I would suspect Pearson is beyond exasperated drilling his defenders for a week only for the same suspects making the same mistakes the following week.
What I would say is it looks as though they are using zonal marking and only Cotterill mastered that for us and that was in league 1, maybe if they cannot understand the concept then man for man marking is needed?

It’s true but you only look at it through one eye. Anything that was good was LJ anything that was **** was Ashton, what’s the favourite excuse on here? Oh yes “he had his best players sold from under him”, perhaps he should have been stronger? Perhaps he should have seen what was happening having been **** on in the 2018 January window when we sitting 2nd in the league and in the semi final of EFL cup, perhaps he should have sorted all of this when he signed a new 4 year contract a year later.

I don’t disagree he maybe could and should have been stronger, and have said as much. It’s also not that black and white, if he was sold a visiion and bought into it, that is what we need from our manager, whoever it is. You could argue that NP could be stronger and demand more money, but again, I believe he has bought into a vision and it takes time

More money? Are you serious? You do realise exactly how close to breaking FFP our recent record loss has left us?
I said a couple of weeks ago most of our rivals have pretty much all been signing players so have either faired better than us financially over the past 2 years or they don’t give a flying feck about FFP.
At least as I said yesterday he is trying to hold on to our best players, but I am realistic enough to know that if players are ambitious you cannot force them to stay and if they do leave, that is not and never will be having your best players sold from beneath you, it’s the way football works these days especially at our level.
