In bold: moot point. Mootest point ever. IF we were in the CL, we WOULD've had a deeper bench, period. Don't let inane UIR and Tobes sway us one iota on that one. How deep does it have to be to compete successfully in all three major competitions? 23-strong squad: 3 GK - Need one more to compete with Mig 4 CB - Need one more to compete with Sakho/Agger/Srtel 4 FB - Need one more to compete with GJ/Flano/Enrique 2 DM - Need one more to compete with Gerrard 3 CM - Need one more to compete with Hendo/Allen 2 AM - We're ok 2 W/F - Need one more to compete with Sterling 3 F/S - We're ok So, we need 6 more. However, differently from some posters I think that these 6 are needed to compete with our existing first-teamers, rather than take over them. So, we'd have the luxury of buying younger players in the 10-25mill range.
I think the return of some of our loan players + a couple of signings and we're ready to go, I don't see Champions League being a problem but something that we have strived for and somthing that we will welcome and enjoy next season. Everyone (rival supporters) is suggesting that it's all going to go wrong next season, we'll soon see. Pehaps once again these people will be surprised.
It's not moot at all. If you'd have been playing CL football this season then the likes of Sturridge and Suarez could well have played another 12-14 games a piece. Or are you suggesting you'd have another brace of top notch strikers on the bench? Get a grip, only a deluded idiot would try and argue that the lack of European football this season hadn't been an advantage to your league campaign. By way of example, Chelsea play their SF tonight, after having played on Saturday, and having what could be a title decider on Sunday, 3 days before the 2nd leg - whereas your lot have a full 7 days rest from 1 league game to the next.
Who are the two AMs? Coutinho and...? Who is the third F/S? Suarez, Sturridge and...? If you mean Aspas then why have you not included Lucas at DM or CM?
2 AM: Any two of Coutinho, Sterling, Alberto (and Suso if BR doesn't sell him) 3 F/S: Any three of Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling and the F/W we'll almost certainly buy in the summer.
It would be fair to assume that Rodgers made the call to avoid European footy based on the players and squad size he had available to him (good call). He now has a more experienced squad better players and a whole Summer to get more players/quality into the squad to prepare us for the added games. There simply is no problem here.
Didn't realise you were counting players in more than one position. In that case, DM and CM are covered with Lucas, especially CM since you've now mentioned Alberto too.
Playing fewer games is an advantage. Having ten years with a ****load of money to build a squad to deal with the extra games is also an advantage. Which outweighs the other (if at all) most certainly is moot. Why do we have to keep pointing this out ad nauseum?
Because BR likes to assign slightly different roles to one player anyway (I like that approach). In the end, it will have to be a strong 23. Lucas ain't hacking it no longer. Alberto (Suso) would only be the third option to AM after Coutinho and Sterling imo.
Yes, he refuses to sign a player that can't play more than one role. I like that too, gives us flexibility. He also won't buy someone that lacks a engine and the desire to be a teammate rather than a individual, I like this too. Although I'm inclined to agree on Lucas, you can't include Alberto or Suso either since they've not yet proved themselves. If you do then where is Wisdom, Ilori, Borini, etc?
Blackburn? What's your point? Only 4 clubs have won the league since them, as the gap between the haves and have nots was made into a chasm by the inception of the CL and the arrival of the oil and gas cash...... Liverpool are the 3rd highest spenders in that same period as they had their noses firmly in the CL trough for most of it. In fact they're the highest spenders in World football who've not won their domestic league during that period.......
You're the 4th highest spenders in the league in the last decade. Why do I have to keep pointing this out ad nauseum?
The relevance is that you had it to waste ffs Making out you've been somehow disadvantaged during the period is a total misnomer.
The parent company was, but there was hardly a fire sale ffs. You're still the 3rd highest spenders in the last 5 years!
