Yep. All they need is permission, or a warrant, or in this new law nothing at all, to look at the stored emails on the server. You don't snoop on things as they are transmitted. You snoop where they are stored. Much easier. An obvious expection is voice calls that may not be stored (recorded) anywhere. You'd have to snoop on that as it is transmitted or force the telcos and/or ISPs to store your calls. Encrytption is the only way to defeat snooping.

It seems Blairs fear mongering has paid off. He has the IDIOTS convinced facts are - radical Islam is a very small minority of a few thousand as described by Bush/Blair basically sunni with a salafist understanding - This group is MORE of a threat to people in their own country specifically say the shia - Saddam Hussain was actually against these radical Islamists - In the last decade or so 15000 people have been killed in non muslim countries. Although even one death is bad, you get more from car accidents etc - The biggest EVER biological terrorist attack was in Tokyo in 1995 which killed 15 people. Yes 15. Again even 1 is bad but..... - IF muslim radicals got hold of a nuclear device, bear in mind most cant even get foreign passports, it would be a local disaster and not the predicted global holocaust There is a threat from radical islam, it is silly to say there isnt. BUT it probably would only just about scrape into the top 10. To suggest it is the biggest is pure fear mongering
