Different class. Surprised The Grey Gatsby ran as well, didnt think he was up to this level, Mukhadram didnt turn up on the day and Telescope doesnt have the speed so not sure it was that great a race but the winner was barely out of 2nd gear. Interesting JOB said mile/mile and a quarter when interviewed, would be good to see Australia vs Kingman at Ascot but i'll still be a bit surprised if he doesnt go for the Champion.
Agree Oddy although they do like the old BC...unlikely he'd do all three. Agree Brough, that meeting won't be happening but I'd be on the colt. Taghrooda could have run in this instead of the the soft option tomorrow. They will be like ships in the night!
Interesting that when asked what is his best distance JOB, without hesitation, said "mile, mile and a quarter". He is entered in the Irish Champion and at Ascot he's entered in 2 races on 18th Oct, The Champion Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth II. Doesn't sound like a plan for the Arc to me. Subsequently AOB ducked the question, despite telling Clare Balding to "listen" several times.
He must be developing some sort of nervous tick or mental issue - that just didn't sound normal at all, got a lot worse since I last heard him (which is probably a couple of years ago).
Bloody hell Maoi Chinn Tire wins again at 8/1 - that fella has really paid his way this summer - 4 wins and 2 seconds from 6 races - well done Jennie Candlish
If he thinks he is good enough to win the Arc, then that is still the race they have to aim at. I don't see the point of running a horse like Australia in the Champion, its not a big race really is it? You either save them for the Breeders Cup or send them to the Arc if they stay the trip (which he has proven to do so). That said, it depends if they really think he is the best they have ever had or not!
Taghrooda should have run Dex, would have been interesting then. But you could argue Australia should have run in the King George as well. The best middle distance filly and colt could have taken each other on twice at their own trips but now they will never race against each other. I dont think either ducked though, Taghrooda was always going for the Yorkshire Oaks and it was bold to run in the King George. Australia ran in the Irish Derby as the Derby winner should. Its a shame we rarely get to see the big match ups that we want.
Sounds like me with Sire De Grugy last season (until the Champion Chase that is). Happens mate -unlucky
It's fair to say Australia and Tagroodah were as impressive as each other in their respective races. It's also fair to say that the older generation are likely very poor this year, certainly within the uk. Tagroodah has dispatched with them in the KG, Australia in the Juddmonte and Kingman at Goodwood. We could in theory have three exceptional three year olds there however. With regard Australia's future targets I feel he must run in Either the Arc, QEII or Breeders Cup to enhance his form. The other races muted will likely add nothing. The most interesting to me would be the QEII against Kingman.
Just drinking one of these bad boys: please log in to view this image Brewed over in East Jutland, in the town of Skive, this is a 70cl bottle with 6.3% ABV. I've got another one in the fridge as well
Well done to Australia. Impressive performance. Fair play to trainer and connections as they have put him on a plane three times to run over three distances including two classics and taken in their home Derby as well.
But it gets so boring every year - when the 4 eyed prick comes out with "he's the best we've ever trained - listen" - first st Nicholas was the great messiah / then Camelot / now Australia !! - what will he say in 2015 ??
