I noticed the commentators suggesting a reason for Jamie Spencers retirement other than the official line. Does anyone have any info on what this may be? I presumed that Qatar racing were not going to renew his contract and he decided did not want to go on in decline and having to scrap for the lower end rides.

    http://www.attheraces.com/article.aspx?ref=redirect&hlid=549246&lid=barry geraghty blog

'Nicky sends POLLY PEACHAM (2.05) for the two mile six furlong mares’ handicap hurdle and although she appears to have a bit on with top weight and conceding 12lb or more I think she has the class to take this.

Nicky has a great way with mares like this and she never stopped improving last season. She has pace over this trip so nicer ground is a plus, too.

It’s just possible that the one we have to beat is Nicky’s other runner, One Lucky Lady.

My other ride of the day has a serious chance of winning the big chase, the Badger Ales Trophy, THE YOUNG MASTER (2.40).

Neil Mulholland has had a great run with him, winning his last four over jumps, two over hurdles in January and two handicap chases this season.

The most recent win was at Cheltenham last month when he won a three-mile handicap off 121 and despite a jump up of 9lb I fancy him to go very very close.

Although he’s won on good ground he’s very effective on heavy so it doesn’t matter what the going is.'

Really need to start reading this blog on ATR!!!

Not too bad a day for Barry G and his followers.

Quite happy with Fine Article even though he lost. Killer Crow is a very decent horse and had an experience and fitness edge. I am confident the 2nd is the best horse in that race.

What the **** is going on with Man City?? Lost at home to ****ty Russian side mid week leaving them on verge of being knocked out of Europe and then only scraping a draw with premier league whipping boys tonight! They'll be looking for a new manage before long

I think they are not linking as a team as well as they need be, also missing David Silva, who in my opinion is the most gifted player in the prem. I think we have a very good season in prospect as we have no teams that can simply turn up and take the points in the way Man U used to. Chelsea look to be the best with the balance being De Costa. I will also add that Southampton are not in second by mistake as have been playing well of late. History tells us that it will be the usual suspects in the champions League places once again come May, but if they keep playing as they are they may sneak one this year. As for QPR I think Arry is taking the speculation about his job very personally and does not want to retire in that fashion so I think he is quite rightly giving it everything, and quite rightly so.

My view of the big boys so far

Chelsea - not taking teams apart in the way City can and United used to but are being managed the best, everyone knows their job and does it, they also give away little.

City - As already mentioned they have the talent but need to link it together better and work on team play, it will return however and someone will get thumped soon in the way no other team can.

Arsenal - Still lacking strength and a superstar striker like Henry was. They should have taken Song back on loan from Barca instead of allowing West Ham to take him as he has been immense this year.

Liverpool - missing Suarez hugely and until they replace him they will struggle. Balloteli was a huge gamble on so many levels, one I am sure even the good people on here who are known for their risk taking may have shied away from. Also need a stronger centre back pairing so I don't see them getting a Euro place this year.

Man Utd - They are coming back soon in my opinion and will start to gel before the end of the season and go on a run which will take them back into the Champions league. Need a quality centre half for sure however in January.

I read it and backed One Lucky Lady each way, based on him saying it was possibly the one to beat in the race <doh> <laugh>

Rangers are no whipping boys mate. Poor start to the season but in recent weeks stuffed Villa, very unlucky not to get someting from the Liverpool game and robbed of a point at Chelsea by a poor refereeing decision. I fancied us to win tonight! By the New Year we will be mid table!

I think Liverpools problem is they have taken Balotelli and tried to fit him into their system they used with Suarez instead of playing to suit him. He has certainly been a scapegoat so far this season and it is pretty harsh. Stevie G has lost it in my opinion and wont be long until he holds his hands up(Like Gary Neville done) and says he cant hack it no more.

Man Utd have a horrible balance of players right now which will take time to adjust. The current crop of centre backs and full backs are made of glass. They need to buy an experience CB as soon as transfer window opens to take control of the back 4.

At start of the season Hull, Burnley, Villa would have been my picks to go down but now season is under way, I'd say QPR or Leicester, Villa, Burnley. Sunderland aren't as bad as they've shown so far and they'll improve, Hull will survive because they don't have Europa league to play in. Palace have a complete ****ing tool in charge so I hope they go down and Leicester are pretty ****! I hope QPR survive I like Harry Redknapp gives honest interviews which is a rarity amongst managers

I'm going all second generation and am only prepared to discuss the Ireland game! Although Australia's penchant for letting the Welsh think they have a chance only to pull the rug away at the death is a never ending source of amusement.

That must have been gut wrenching for the Welsh Dan. I sort of thought that the Wallabies might have been a bit vulnerable this time around. We've had some nice tussles with NZ and SA, but have not looked all that flash. I'll not offer our reasons why the Southern Hemisphere has had the wood on the North for so long, I'll leave that up to you guys. :)
