Anyone say New Approach was better than Sea The Stars?

He was a better 2yo and ran in a much better Guineas but think everyone would say Sea The Stars was a better horse.

New Approach was a Derby horse and Henrythenavigator was a top miler, doubt anyone would dispute that apart from those who were sick when he won the Derby.

He had his prefered ground in the Irish Champion Stakes and scraped home from Traffic Guard,a winner of 5 races in 40 odd attempts, the best at Listed level. The third and fourth were G3 winners after many attempts.

Good horse he was but no more than slightly above average.

Posted my picks earlier today which I went with.Having a drink in my local I fancied Pupil in the 3-20.Please guys what do you think Hughes was thinking of having the rail and leading and, what looked to me,switching whip hand from right to left.

Got a rant on as he cost me,IMO,quite a few quid.

    Sorry guys rant over.

Unbeaten Champion 2yo - National Stakes, Dewhurst,

Champion 3yo - Derby, Irish Champion, English Champion

    2nd in both Guineas

one bad run in his life and it happened to be after an injury where he still finished 3rd in a Group 1, still not back to his best in the Irish Champion but got the job done unlike some

horse needs no excuses im afraid

and if thats just better than average we may as well say Frankel and Secretariat are the only good horses in history

or we could judge both of them on their worst runs, Frankel only just better than Zoffany? Onion better than Secretariat?

<rofl> Better than Sea the Stars, even for you Boris, that's WUMING taken to a new level!

New Approach got put in his place by HTN, another who was hardly one of Coolmores 'best evers'. Should have ran him in the Arc but they bottled it, sent him to a poxy English Champion Stakes. Remind us what the Derby second of Stoutes done after it?! And they've the cheek to slag off Australia's Derby <rofl>

New Approach. Good horse but that's it. HTN and Ravens Pass were the pick of that generation.

I dont see anything bad in his defeats in the Guineas, I see no need to excuse them, just pointing out the facts.

The only run that needs an excuse is the Juddmonte, and first run after an injury seems pretty legit to me, its obvious it wasnt the same horse who won the Derby, he wasnt the same horse in the Irish Champion either, thats why he never went for the Arc.

But you saw him in the last race.

Where was Ravens Pass in the Guineas and Dewhurst?

New Approach was champion 2yo and 3yo in a cracking generation, thats the facts

Dewhurst and Derby winner, just a good horse <laugh>

old fashioned wonder horse boys <ok>

People forget that he pulled Mannings arms out for half a mile, was 4rth last with nowhere to go and still won the Derby, with a nice trip he would have romped the Derby.

Milk it Mick won the Dewhurst. Legend <ok>

All out to beat Traffic Guard. Won a Derby beating a horse who struggled to beat the horse ambulance home. Legend <ok>

Should have run in the Arc but took the ****ty race option instead as Bolger knew he'd been found out. <ok>

Holy crap on a stick are we now really saying success at stud directly equates to how good they were on track <rofl> George Washington and Al Kazeem must have been less than useless on the racetrack then using that logic <rofl>

After that ridiculous statement Boris I'm out of this debate! Good luck <ok>

    New Approach
    11 starts - 8 wins - 2 2nds - 1 3rd
    Group 1 - 5 wins
    Group 2 - 1 win
    Group 3 - 1 win

Credits - New Approach Champion 2yo and 3yo

Put the two others well in their place at 2

done it for more than one season, its not even a debate

If the nose goes the other way in the Guineas there wouldnt even be a discussion

    Group 1s at 7f to 12f

the other two were just top milers at 3yo, New Approach was a champion
