I can't disagree that, because at times he makes me want to slap him, not always... but there are times when I just wanna shake him and ask him what the hell he's thinking. But when he's a character (likable or not) it's not good, and when he's reasonable he's towing the corporate robot line, so it's always a lose/lose for him. For me, I have to separate his in car and out car characteristics sometimes, because as a racer, I truly love watching him. And it's odd as a fan of his, because the last 3 seasons have seen lots of wins which is good, it's also been really bad because I've rarely got to see the things I love about him so much. It's been an odd few seasons from that respect.
Nico is obviously favourite, but I think Lewis will win the title. I find it hard to believe nico won't have some issues in the last 3 races.
If Nico somehow misses out on the greatest opportunity handed to him (assuming he bottles something), I will have no respect in his abilities. If there is a mechanical issue then fair enough. In terms of track limits, I imagine the likes of Schumacher, Montoya, Hakkinen and Villeneuve would be laughing their socks off if this was a discussion in the good old days.
Back then track limits weren't an issue because the circuits were lined with grass and gravel. Whilst who squeezed who to the edge of the track would often be an argument, these guys did at least have enough respect not to force other drivers off the road knowing that it would potentially involve a big accident................... until the tarmac run offs came in, in which case there was no consequences for doing this, so they could then do it 'guilt free'.
That's a good point about the gravel, I still don't understand why the traps were slowly removed from the tracks. Don't know whose idea it was, and what logic it was based on. You make the mistake you are out, you learn your lesson and finesse your driving the next time round. Now there is no punishment, risk or learning.
In my humble opinion Lewis Hamilton is quite simply the best driver of an F1 car I have ever seen, I have seen em all since 1969, but i must admit some of his social behaviors and personal traits I find unusual it's true, but I'm not sure if he is any different in these respects than most sub 30s young people nowadays. I work with dozens of young people on a daily basis and find this constant, phone, internet, texting, messaging, bloody Wats App, and all the rest, are actually antisocial, rude and outright ignorant. But that's just my opinion.
Oh and don't forget the catch fencing with wooden posts and wire netting, now they were very effective at preventing off road excursions.
Yes, but they were just plain dangerous. Catch poles would hit drivers on the head and drivers got trapped underneath the fencing. I think the start of the 1981 British GP is a good example of the mess such fencing could create. Plus, once down, it's that area is then useless for the rest of the race. May as well bring back hay bales to line the circuit as well.
Well yea maybe, but they were effective in 75 when almost half the grid crashed at Club in the rain, more dangerous for the spectators from what I can remember. we used to take our own box scaffolding as viewing platforms, brilliant days. Hay bale's worked well, pity the Italians didn't put some in front of the concrete wall at Imola !!
Pat Symonds "I think that Alonso braked so late. Even when he hit Felipe, he still left the track. So having used Felipe as a brake, he still left the track. "And then he did the same thing with Sainz a couple of laps later. He didn’t hit Sainz, but he was so far off the track, I thought he was going to Mexico.”
Thinking about it, Hay bales arn't such a bad idea. 1: Bio degradable, keep the greenies happy. 2: Inexpensive, about a £5 each, keep the accountant types happy. 3: Impact absorbent, keep the off roaders happy. 4: Readily available, keep most farmers on the planet happy. 5: Easily reformed and packaged, keep the recyclers happy. 6: Stackable and lightweight, keep the stewards happy. 7: Inert and user friendly, non explosive, keep everybody happy, well almost !!
Think Fernando was being a tad optomistic and overly ambitious at this precise moment in his career, eh.
As a side note. Wouldn't it be much fairer if they banned pitting under Vsc? I feel the race was a lot worse as we were robbed of a Rosberg-Ricciardo battle. Hugely benefited Sainz and Alonso as well.
The VSC is just bad full stop. Agree that banning pitying would be a good solution especially as they won't run out of fuel like they did before. For me it should be a slow zone on the pit limiter.
When they brought out the VSC I thought it was going to be a slow zone around an accident. I don't see the point really in making it a track wide slow zone. Supposedly stops people gaining or losing an advantage but that's clearly not working.
This is what they do in the Isle of Man for the TT..... Just wrap hard things with some mats, problem solved. please log in to view this image I'm sure they wrapped them in hey bails too, but can't find any pictures.
