"I can't get over the amount of long-haired greasy jitters on these boards!" I always had Chris down as dirty and greasy, but a jitter? ****s sake.. and Goths, many Goths...
You lucky bastard, I was due to see him in the Albert Hall 2007 but just getting over my throat op, so could not be trusted not to throw up had to get my brother to sell the tickets outside lost £10 on each ticket. And Pissy Chrissy you have moved up a notch, did your ears bleed at Motörhead or have they calmed down a bit?
First gig - The Buzzcocks Last gig - Hayseed Dixie last summer at the Lloyds ampitheatre (country style AC/DC, general metal and others tribute band, if you can GO TO SEE THEM, here's their live version of Ace of Spaces, it shouldn't work but it does but they are much better live and funny as ****... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fc_FddyNJY0 Best ever gig - so many, early Maiden, early Leppard, The Damned, The Skids, Sham 69, Sammy Hagar, The Ruts, SLF, Riot, The Scorpions, Saxon but the best, best, BEST ever is undoubtedly The Undertones at the Locarno (approx 1980), this will never be bettered for atmosphere and sheer raw energy as long as I live
Prem just a quick question did you see Sammy Hager on the Red tour? Scorpions on Blackout tour? also saw Micheal Shenker Group around the same time who in my opinion is the better guitarist than brother Rudolf from Scorpions All in the Colton Hall? I also saw Saxon but I saw them on the Wheels of Steel tour in Stroud leisure centre but you could probably hear them within a 20 mile radius
Redone, its getting harder to remember these days but yes, Sammy Hagar was at The Colston Hall from memory around 1979/80. The track that first drew my attention to him was "this planets on fire" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9lRIOe7JsA&feature=related absolutely brilliant (turn speakers to Spinal Tap 11) but I really went to see the support act Riot who I thought were the better outfit. Wandered down to Rival Records on Park Street the following day to get my Riot album (Narita, lots of good tracks, great album) signed and didn't half get some looks from the guys all dressed in metal gear and there I was, in me suit but I didn't care and one of the band said fair play (or something like that). Still got that one in the attic somewhere. Also check out Fire Down Under... Saxon was also at the Colston Hall and I think it was Wheels of Steel but it might help narrow it down if I say that this night, Biff's microphone broke but he carried on without it until they found a new one. They did have the reputation as the loudest band in the known universe at the time and I had real trouble hearing much for a day or 2 after as my mate booked the front row seats in front of the left hand side band of speakers - something he regularly repeated later... The Scorpions was later, never saw MSG live but loved both.
First gig - Whitesnake with my dad! Last gig - Lostprophets, absolutely incredible live! Went over to Cardiff for it and was just immense. Best - Oasis/Kasabian/ The Enemy at Millenium Stadium was incredible.
First gig -The Who and Bob Dylan- Isle of Wight 1968 -was anyone else there ? Best gig -Fairport Convention I did see ..................doing giggs in a house somewhere in Cheshire before the curtain were shut
another one, bruce springsteen, adelaide oval 1985, three and a half hours of the ultimate performer.
First was Steve harley and Cockney rebel at the Locarno (great venue!) in the very early 70's Best was Texas at Cardiff Arena on the same Saturday that Liverpool and West Ham met in the F A Cup final a few years back. Sharleen Spitteri is awesome - you should watch her live. Most interesting (in hindsight!) took place in November 1973 at the Colston Hall. I watched Ian Hunter with Mott the Hoople - their backing band was Queen. I had recently bought their first album and loved the first single - Keep Yourself Alive. Great days. Never saw them live after that!
