I agree with you Imaz, except I don't see we need any body like a Monarch, a President or a God. All we need are the ones the people themselves elected to try and run things for us. Michael Benn and Michael Foot were about the best politicians we had for many years, far too few of the likes of them.
imaz said get a respectable elder statesman ABOVE politics. tony benn or thatcher would be no good mr bean for president
Imaz is a radical Muslim which is great but he won't debate with anyone. He posts one crazy article then fu*ks off for another month.
Readers shouldn't make the mistake of concluding that just because someone disparages Tony Benn doesn't automatically make them a Tory. Neither should anybody fall into the trap of believing that our beloved political leaders have been 'democratically elected'. Does anybody really think that they have any say whatsoever in which parliamentary candidates are chosen to stand in bi-elections etc.? Most candidates are directly groomed by the party apparatchik, having kept their noses clean for a number of years, carrying out researcher or canvasser roles, blindly voting in line with diktat and doing their utmost not to mix with the proletariat until they need their votes. If you want a president or some other form of elected Head of State, you'd get more of the same: a politically-motivated Hooray Henry or Commie with an agenda of his/her own; this time with far greater powers than our current Monarch can exercise. Be very, very careful what you wish for, it might just come true. Personally, I'll settle for the current system of a Monarch instilled from an early age with a strong sense of duty and with no political power of any note. Much safer.
