TC: I see what you're saying, and I take the point. But I didn't mean that the non-Anfield England players would decline to be sacrificed, although I don't expect to see all those five on the pitch at the same time unless there's a major injury crisis. What I intended, and should have said, is that the Hodgson plan isn't the same as the Rodgers plan, where Gerrard's the quarterback and given priority cover and protection. I think he'll be much more exposed in Brazil and - given the likely high temperatures - I question his ability to cope.
I wish Steven Gerrard was a quarterback. I'd quite like to see 8 huge Americans from the projects bearing down on him and hammering him into the turf. I bet he wouldn't have the balls to complain about the music THEY played.....
