That will do. Not the prettiest display but we had a Championship Goal of the Month contender in addition to the 3 points against a decent (and in form) Coventry City.
Huge win and the recent run against play off contenders has seen us pick up some great results and make ground on the top 6 barring Leeds
That was really good result, QPR next, they got a good win for them against Blackburn and are scrapping for their lives down at the bottom.
Despite the euphoria of this win it was a performance of two sides. Mostly it was good. But the ridiculous lazy passes and almost refusal of tackles at times tell the story that we are getting better, but not as much as we would like to believe. The quality is there but unfortunately the belief does not quite match it yet. Some excellent play intertwined with some laziness in other words in my humble opinion.
We seem to be building momentum at the right time , anyone that can finish in the top 6 seats when the music stops has a chance but Leicester Leeds & Southampton look a level above.
I would agree that there is still a lot to work on, one thing that was pleasing is that all the substitutes (bar the ones in injury time) contibuted to the goals
Sydney van Hooijdonk certainly looked the part when he came on for his cameo! Very much looking forward to seeing what he can add for the rest of the season.
It was indeed huge. If we'd lost today, we'd be on 41 points and 12th in the table. Furthermore, Middlesbrough and Cardiff would be one point behind, 'Boro with two games, and Cardiff one game, in hand. Sunderland, Hull and West Brom would all be above us, all with one game in hand. Every game now is huge and it's all about consistency.
Was at the match today. Sainz's goal in the flesh was fantastic and a lovely touch by Barnes to set him up. There were some unhappy City fans who made their feelings known when Barnes came on instead of Van Hoojdonk but Wagner got the substitutes spot on. Sainz was my Man of the Match today. The goal aside, he was continually looking for the ball and when he made an error and lost possession, he went looking to win back the ball. He is fast becoming a key player for us and another we may have to hold on to in future. Some excellent play today and good game management later on. McLean had some frustrating moments first half with some poor passing at times but second half clearly wanted to put the first 45 mins behind him and gave his all second half. The goal we gave away was dreadful - a real head in hands moment!! Credit to Gunn for a couple of very decent saves 2nd half as Coventry kept looking for an equaliser. Brief performance from Van Hoojdonk who looked good and looking forward to seeing him get more game time. In conclusion, some frustrations but lots of positives and another good day out at Carrow Road. Enjoy the win everyone!! Need to make sure we keep on going and not slip up at QPR next week who had a decent win today.
We've now taken 18 points from our last 10 games, which included Ipswich(a), West Brom(h&a), Southampton(h), Hull(a), Leeds(a) and Coventry(h). That's 7 out of 10 games against teams above us and we still managed 1.8 points per game. Sargent has played in the last 4 of those and we won 3 of the 4, the one exception being Leeds away. Sargent has scored 6 goals in 8 starts and 2 sub appearances. Where would we be now if we had him and Sainz all season? The key question now is what van Hooijdonk can add as well for the rest of the season. Sydney is actually two weeks older than Josh, so it could be quite a battle for game time. Wagner post match: "Overall it was a top afternoon for us. I was very pleased with all the players. We were energetic and front-footed like we wanted to be, because if you give Coventry the ball you have to avoid them enjoying themselves. We always said that when we get players back we will have competitiveness in our squad. We always have belief."
