You’re right, just had to watch it again. I thought Joseph got his toe to it but he just missed and it was Crooks that got a touch, although Joseph still played a part in causing their defender to give possession away, just not as much as I thought.
I definitely think he’s improved this season, but just needs to add a bit more threat in the oppositions box (oh and goals ).
Yeah, it is strange. Thought he was brilliant in the first couple of games. Got an injury and has barely played since he came back from injury.
The conversation around Joseph is going the same way it often does with players who get labelled as League 1 fodder: even when they have a good run people can't wait to get back to dismissing them as soon as an opportunity comes. We've drawn a game so it's back to 'Joseph is League 1 ****e'. I think it's surely hard to disagree that he's been one of our best performers in the winger spots this season, despite it obviously not being his natural position as such. He's clearly been better than Akintola, and Ndala has often been sat on the bench. So with Millar and Belloumi out again it seems apparent to me that KJ will continue to be one of our best options for that role in the coming weeks. Hopefully he continues to perform as he has done because he's been very effective.
He’s currently our best striker too. That doesn’t mean the comments about him are invalid, he is struggling at this level.
having scored 22 and 9 in seasons prior to that one, quite clearly not the same and I’ve seen nothing to suggest he will ever score goals at this level.
you were calling slater utter **** for weeks, then he has some of his best games recently give it a rest maybe
Slatz has really stepped it up recently but he at least showed signs he could operate at this level prior.
My argument would be it's his workrate, pressing and defending which gets him picked every week, and yes he is currently the best option. However, give him the ball at his feet or an opportunity in front of goal and that's when he looks like a League 1 player. If we were to have any promotion pretentions (almost certainly not this season) then we would need an awful lot better than him.
Id argue in a team with McBurnie in it - Joseph can have value even if he’s not scoring loads. He harasses the opposition both in defence and attack. This keeps defenders occupied and frees up space for McBurnie to get free and on the end of Giles’ deliveries. Equally his pressing of the opposition means they are more likely to make mistakes. In the Championship that’s quite valuable. Think if players like Kuyt, a few steps up on Joseph clearly but a similar type of player and can be useful to a team.
