He is, but I would certainly like to see him up front, I’m pretty sure he can be as dangerous. His goal last time out was from a central position.
Close one to call this. 14 fit Tigers versus 20 fit birds … or canaries as they prefer to be called. City 3-0 Backward Provincial Backwater
I can't see it with the way Gelhardt has been playing. Not only was Drameh totally lost there, Gelhardt looks at his best there.
Odd about Williams, you'd expect him to be nailed for the bench tomorrow even just to make up the numbers?
I just think Coyle is our first choice right back, as shown by being picked there when available by several managers in a row, including three who've had the choice between him and Drameh. No complaints if Drameh keeps his place at RB tomorrow, but that's the one change I'd be considering if we stay with the back three.
A hard one to call, we rarely do well there, but if there is any time to change that, it must be now. I guess whoever gets the first goal may well go on to win. However, I would take a draw.
I just don't rate Coyle, I know it blinds me, but I just can't get over how much he backs off his winger. Never seems to block a cross. Weird as he used to be a great 1v1 defender. In my view if he wasn't captain he wouldn't get in the side.
Not sure I've seen anything from Destan that makes me think he should be starting games, he hasn't got a prolific goal scoring record either
****ing knew it, was tempted for a £1, it’s been bugging me all day. Oh well, still poor hahaha, wonder what the odds were on just this game.
Funny how every manager has kept him as Captain and first choice right back. What do those UEFA pro licence coaches know?
It's incredibly rare for an incoming manager to strip the captaincy off someone. Seems blindingly obvious to me that Hughes is better suited for the role. Also I disagree with this narrative of every manager making him first choice. Christie was obviously first choice under Liam until his career was ruined with the surgery. Then Dim Tim played Drameh left back which meant Coyle played, Selles hated any player who went over halfway (his judgement can be summed up by binning off Giles to play Macca left back) and Sergej we don't actually know who is first choice as he's changed through injury or position changes each time.
I don't think he's any worse than Coyle in the air from what I've seen, Coyle often loses out too. Just looked at a comparison and they've got the exact same 'Aerial Duels won' %age at 44.4% this season.
Didn't everyone think the scuffle in the off season was the perfect time to take the captaincy off him? Would have been a pretty easy way to do it if Jak had wanted to.. He's first choice due to his work ethic and determination. Exactly the same situation with Slater, who always gets pushed out of the XI for a shiny new signing before working his way back into plans due to a combination of his availability, positional flexibility and work rate.
Sergej wasn't even the manager when it happened so that would have been weird to retrospectively do it. Also he'd be very bold to do that day one, any manager would. Work rate and determination isn't enough though is it Syd, Slater actually has some good qualities when he's on his A game. I don't see that Drameh has any less work rate than Coyle, I just think that's a lazy argument to make.
Why would it have been weird? He could have come in, named his own captain, and cited the fact that events over the off-season contributed to his decision making. Jak strikes me as someone bold, wouldn't you say? Isn't enough is it? Might be why I cited a fair few factors not just those then. Reckon the lazy argument might be the constant moaning about Coyle season after season "cos he's not god at 1:1s".
