This, I don't know what people were expecting, we had the exact same reaction against Sheffield United; a few wins and suddenly it's "we're going to make the playoffs, why aren't we making the playoffs, bloody hell why aren't we beating these ex-Premier League sides?" Get real, our manager has done fantastically well to get us out the **** and given the short time to turn things around, it's been a very good reign so far for Rosie. A team like ours doesn't measure it's season on those kinds of games, we need to make sure we're beating the likes of Blackpool, Rotherham, Reading, Cardiff and Bristol City. We'll get there, I thought for parts of the game we were in it, but quality always shows through and they had more of it than us, as you'd expect from players like they had.
I think it is fair to say we were beaten by the better side. A combination of we wasn't quite at it, and them being up for the game resulted in what we saw. However, I did feel is we could have hung on longer to the 1-0 lead, then that may well have affected the game in our favour, but conceding as quickly as we did took the wind out of our sails somewhat. At halftime though, I thought we had done okay to keep it level after they dominated and hoped we would start to see ourselves grow into the game in the second half. Unfortunately, it was the other way around, we got worse and they continues where they left off. IMO, Woods and Seri together doesn't work, they are too similar in the way they play. We missed Docherty's energy, and when he came on I thought he did make a difference and try to get us moving. Christie had a torrid time, Hernandez had the better of him most of the evening, defensively he is not as good as he is going forward, maybe in away games against better opposition, Coyle who is more of a fullback might be a better option. Good to see Tetteh and Pelkas back, that can only be a plus, Malcolm has yet to make any impression, but we have to trust in Liam who clearly sees something in him, as does Crystal Palace. At 2-1 though I did get the feeling we might have grabbed an equaliser, however unjust it might have felt, but to be in the game until the 89 minutes when they score the 3rd, I guess when you play that badly and still be in the game near the end is at least some consolation. Anyhow, you will have these sorts of games, what matters now is the reaction Saturday.
It's amazing. I commented on this more broadly about football in general, but it seems as if managers are undone by their own performance. Managers either start **** and get sacked without much chance - I wouldn't be surprised to see Critchley gone at QPR soon - or start well which then means when things do go sour for a patch fans and clubs think they should be doing a lot better because of the previously good results! Anything other than continued and sustained winning runs (see: Kompany and Heckingbottom) and the knives come out! It's utterly absurd. Only 4 teams can make the play offs and just because we aren't likely to be one of them doesn't make us a rubbish side. A perfect example I look at is Arsenal and their development under Arteta. People were calling for his head after their poor start last season but they had a plan and vision and stuck by him. They developed a core of young players and grew as the season progressed, and they're now seeing the benefits of that. Even more extreme but United under Ten Hag started the season with two terrible losses and there were whispers that if the results continued much more he would have been sacked, and now look at them. The short-termisim in football is appalling and seems to only be getting worse.
poorest we have played under rosenior, let's see how we respond on Saturday think a few fans need to realise how far we have progressed since Liam as took over.
I can't believe how short-sighted some people are on here! If we lose a game, we should sack the manager and get a new one. It's the only way forward and Acun needs to realise it, fact!
What he didnt say was, "I should have addressed what was going on at about 30 minutes and definitely at half time".... I wanted him to be honesty and come out and say 'my fault,, apologies to those that travelled and at home" BTW .... good manager Wagner... look what he did with scraps at Huddersfield...
Yep, because every defeat always has to be because of a lineup or formation. Never just that we didn't play well enough this time.
I don't need the manager apologising to me every time we lose because I know that sometimes you just play a better team.
Again, im not going to get in a bun fight ST, but what you do is to try and stop what they are doing so well, we didnt!!!... Bristol City (below us) seemed to manage ok on Saturday - even if they upped their performance last night...
I'm not arguing with you about the performance, I just think it's silly to demand Rosenior apologise.
Think that was the problem most of that was Useful but really is that what we want from him,? it’s like those saying how much work off the ball Oscar does running around he does to his credit but either our play or team set up doesn’t get the best out of them - they offered no attacking threat between them - and Oscar couldn’t keep the ball at all - Longman does but many don’t see it
Tetteh got an assist, I wouldn't say no attacking threat. Hard to have much attacking threat with so little of the ball.
Has anyone said that? Possibly bob but well… I said it in the OP He needs to be brave He wasn’t We got stuffed last night because we gave them nothing to think about this will make the tarts on here scream but he lost the derby job by been too conservative and had too many draws when he had the players to do more. the management team the other week we’re saying he needs to be more expansive so they’re noticing it too.
I don’t think we’re a team capable of getting play-offs without that enforcer #6-type player next to Seri. We do okay against teams that sit deep and allow us time on the ball to play out from the back but against teams that press high, like Stoke and Norwich, we look really, really poor in and out of possession. We’re a really unbalanced side in midfield especially. Blame Acun, Kesler and/or Shota for the summer recruitment. Rosy made the mistake of playing Seri and Woods together against a high-pressing team like Norwich and we looked rank for most of the game. Against Preston he either needs to stick Doc back in there or start Simons. We’re not getting relegated and play-offs seem far-fetched so play this young defensive midfielder he keeps raving about wanting to sign permanently and see if it balances the midfield a bit.
QPR didn't sit back, they came at us and we picked them off. On the other hand, teams that sit off and let us have the ball have got draws at the MKM, like Blackpool and Sunderland did.
Actually, I think he was quite brave. Nit many managers dare field a 4-4-2 at the best of times these days let alone away to a team with the strength of Norwich. With Seri and Woods in midfield I think we tried to go and play and the intention was to try and keep the ball but just weren’t good enough. We probably would have been better served setting up to play more conservatively with 5 in midfield sitting deep and tight and hitting it long.
