YES WE BLOOMING CAN! FT 0-1 I'm buzzing. Cracking defensive display and we score from our only half-chance. Love it. Looking forward immensely to hearing from those who were there.
Unbelievable ha. Every update I read was Norwich then booooom. Some good news after a 4 hour train journey! Norwich will surely feel hard done by, but it sounds like a very hard fought win and some resolute defending. It will be interesting to hear from anyone who went.
I could only follow the game via twitter but it was coming over as though Charlton were more than happy to just defend all night, and any time they did venture forward and the attack broke down, everyone charged back in to the Charlton box and wait for the onslaught. Is that what the Addicks have been doing this season?
Frequently, yes. Bob trusts our defence to do its job, and we usually nick a goal, by hook or by crook.
Not all season - we've usually defended deeper in second halves. That said, when going up against one of the best sides in the league you have to do all you can to pick up points.
Can't argue with that, but it's of a little concern for us if all visiting teams choose to try the same, especially if they succeed. What is the Charlton view of the referee for the game? Our local radio station and fans etc are ripping him apart for his performance.
Normally we score first, then go very (too) deep. Tonight, we were away at the league leaders, so we defended and hit on the break. No offence ThaiCanary but GEDDINTHERE YOU BEAUTY!
I have been watching this game for so long that offence never comes in to it any more. Seen it all before mate
No referee in this league impresses me. The standard is awful. I'm sure you will break down other teams. The only positive I could imagine before the game was your two centre forwards - both like to get on top and make life difficult for defenders - were goi head to head with two of the strongest in the league.
I don't think there's anything wrong in people suggesting JJ maybe sit out the odd game here and there. Even SAF would manage players the calibre of scholes and giggs the same way. It's a way of trying to preserve them, and with JJ's injury record, I'm sure Lawrence Bloom will be managing this closly.
That makes sense with Bob subbing him before the full 90 on a Saturday when we have a Tuesday fixture, that's not what my point was. Some were saying e should be dropped from the starting 11....
Well done lads good result for you tonight. The poor old Budgies are crying because it wasn't deserved!
To get the best out of JJ there will be times when we have to drop him. But for tonight, we celebrate him.
Three points away from home against one of the favourites for promotion. That'll more than do for me thank you very much...!! Sounds like a classic smash and grab job from us. People have suggested that we've drawn too many and have been a little negative in some games. Maybe they're right. However, what our manager, coaching staff and players have done is make us hard to beat. For this they must all be saluted. All too often last season we rolled over and allowed the opposition to tickle our belly, and do with us what they wanted. There was a distinct lack of backbone IMHO. Not this season (thus far). We have made some bloody good sides work damn hard, giving away nothing cheaply. Thus resulting in each and every side we've come up against having to earn whatever they've taken away from us. As a Charlton fan I can ask no more. I for one will be absolutely over the moon if this level of commitment is carried through to the end of the season, regardless of where we finish. COYR...!!
I was starting to write JJ off but the yards he has lost, he makes up in determination, and intelligence, reminds me of a Kinsella type captain. Be a just reward if he gets something out of this season, if he can stay fit, it might just be our year.
I posted the same on another site. Johnnie Jackson is the last of the old school Charlton types - right up there with the likes Of Shirtliff, Gritt and Kinsella from the last 30 years. Slow start to the season yes, but you could see from his Twitter last night what it meant to him after. Norwich was the first game I have missed this season , despite the great win felt like I had been kicked in the bollox at full time not being up there with the lads. Who gives a **** if we had a **** ref last night and nicked the win, as Super said, we have had some shocking refs this season. #BigBobForPresident
