I just think its hilarious for you to say that all bad signings made by Hughton are his fault, yet the good ones are down to somebody else.
I'm not saying that. It's public record that the ones you said were his successful ones weren't even made by him. He did made some good signings like Williamson, but they were outweighed by bad ones. Just looking at the fakhts here, as a personal hero of mine would put it.
this is marvellously ill-informed. it made me spill my coffee when i laughed though, so i'll send my dry-cleaning bill to you
So because Hughton is English and Ba and Ben Arfa came from France, he had no involvement in their transfers. Sure the scouts would of alerted him to them, but he would of watched them himself to see if they were up to it. He decided to splash out part of his transfer budget on those players, so he deserved a lot of credit for their signings. Geordie fans thought he was very unfairly treated and players past and present came out with anger at his sacking.
Except it's all true. Hughton's a decent manager in the Championship, distinctly average in the PL. There's a reason you're 3rd favourites to go down.
carra, although you are right to defend hughton's transfer record (which is very good considering financial constraints) you are wrong about leeds summer signings. they've been very good overall - i don't like colin but he knows his way around the transfer market, that's for sure as for snodgrass, it's been reported by sky sports - we all know that means nothing yet. he's a good player and it's probably 50/50 at the moment as to whether he stays. no doubt a certain paul lambert will have his nose twitching at this little development (if it is true) so its still doubtful he would end up in norfolk anyway. good luck with the takeover
how can you possibly know? his only spell in the top flight saw his team reside in 10th place. many would have said the same about lambert or rodgers this time last year. all i know is he's extremely highly rated by his peers and by the staff who have worked with and for him. this nonsense that newcastle and birmingham had mid-table premier league squads... err, they got relegated the year before, so they weren't that good! newcastle were, if you don't mind me saying this, expected to 'do a leeds' and drop like a stone through the divisions until he picked them up and tore the division a new one. birmingham played almost 70 games last year yet still nearly got promoted. all i'm saying is that hughton may well be a bigger draw to players than you give credit. by the way, we were 3rd favourites for the drop (we are 4th now) because they thought holt was leaving and the bookies believe west ham and qpr are better than us. this is based on nothing more than the usual london bias.
No, the reason isn't because he's English, it's because it was obviously Graham Carr who made those signings. You read the Guardian article which lists the players he's signed? Here it is, if not. The credit can't go to Hughton for almost all of Newcastle's best players being there. Only one or two fringe players who've been decent seem to be down to him. I live in Geordieland and most of them have come round to accepting it was right for him to go. And I've never heard any of them saying he was a good transfer operator, just that he was the steady hand they needed to regain stability. Probably why Birmingham got him. I don't believe that's what Norwich need, and I don't believe his presence at your club is particularly appealing to a player like Snodgrass who could stay at a revitalized Leeds and be happy or, if not, still move to a bigger club than your own, with no offence intended. As for the scout-manager relationship, that's impossible to say unless we were privy to the backroom discussions. I don't agree with you that Hughton particularly did much by rubber-stamping the hard work Carr did in sourcing those talents. Carr will have written detailed reports, compiled videos and made his recommendation. Other than read and watch, there's very little for the manager to do other than scribble his signature if he thinks the players will fit in. Rubbish. Look at the quality of those players. They were mismanaged by poor coaches, that was the reason they went down. Until Ashley underwrote the debts and got them on good financial footing. Them and us was never a realistic financial comparison. Just uninformed idiots using the first phrase that came into their heads, which happened to involve Leeds' name. I repeat my belief that nearly any manager in the Championship in 09-10 could have got that Newcastle side promoted as champions. He did well at Birmingham, I'm just doubting his credentials in the top flight, and to an extent his own ability in signing players. Once again with Snodgrass, not his work.
Okay going to try and remain positive about this - Maybe this bid will be a blessing in disguise, if the T/O is imminent surely it will spark a fast forward and come to a conclusion? Oh the joys of supporting Leeds with Ken the ****er bates in charge...
We will have to agree to disagree regards their signings. To be fair, Sky Sports aren't usually too far wrong. I agree that he won't end up at Norwich, as I would put money on him joining Villa.
99% of managers don't find their signings! thats a terrible reason for doubting a manager. its down to scouts. lambert's best signings all came as a result of our chief scout ewan chester. he's the genius behind our best signings and he's back at our club, giving hughton all his picks.
That's simply not true. All managers will have a good look at players before they sign them, and if they don't, they deserve to be sacked for wasting their budgets on dross.
i think jerel plays football manager a bit too much if he thinks its easy to get any team promoted to be honest
They don't scout them, but they make the final decision on any signings. Lambert wouldn't have just taken Chester's word for it on signing any player. He would of looked at them himself, whether that be live or videos. The buck stops with the manager when it comes to player signings.
no, absolutely, you're right. but to say that hughton is no good in the transfer market because his signings were scouted for him is wrong - all managers signings are scouted for them! its just they have final say so. its the scouts that find the appropriate players the manager wants when they give the scouts a list of their demands
