Pilks did have a good game and they were a bit unlucky to not get at least a draw, IMO. Playing 90 minutes and the 15 against Sweden must have brought his match fitness up.
I think Hodgson is about as good as you'll get as a manager if you have a bunch of relatively mediocre players. He will organise them well and make them hard to beat.
