To be brutally honest I think we'd decided that £15m for Joe was good business and didn't want to rock the boat and risk Liverpool pulling out. Huw and the board did a fine job of appearing wounded about the whole thing but secretly it must have been hard to keep a straight face during negotiations.
We didn't have a choice when the £15M trigger was pulled, but that amount of money is a joke - and we're laughing all the way to the bank.
One request guys, when swearing, please spell it properly so the swear filter can do it's work for those who don't wish to see it. Cheers byt. On topic. Dai, what the hell are you on?
Surely Allen's £15M buy out clause was in addition to Rodgers agreement not to sign any swans players for 12 months. IMO it was a clear case of Rodgers breaking the agreement, and his own personal promise!
The agreement was that he wouldn't come in for our players unless another club did so or a player was put up for sale. The agreement was breached when Liverpool initially bid £12.5M as neither criteria had been met. When we said no they effectively made Allen for sale by bidding £15M - the trigger amount. At that point we had no alternative. As I've said before, even though this was perfectly legal it was morally reprehensible and against the spirit of our agreement.
Yes I agree. Obviously he broke no legal contract or we'd know about it. It's just the fact that he gave us his word he wouldn't sign any of our players and then blatantly went back on it.
