I had the pleasure of watching 'Chippy' on many occasions and your statement is bang on, he was a class act and nearing the Glenn Hoddle mold in my opinion.
and how much did we pay for fox? £65k wasn't it?!?! surely the bargain of the century (after lambert of course!)
He was and most of his playing career it was Hoddle that was the main reason he did not get an England call up IMO. Also, With crook being a 20 ciggie a day man, that may not have helped. I could see the FA thinking that if that came out in the press it would reflect badly on them.
Ive always said since the start of summer that fox could be the difference between staying up and going down. His numerous abilities could win us a good 10-15 points over the course of the season and I think he is only going to improve more...
With question marks over tackling and mobility, I think the perception with Crook was that he would be a luxury player at international level. In fact, that was something Hoddle suffered from too. Complete nonsense in my view. Crook was simply one of those players that you feel privileged to have had at your club.
Holt dived after minimal contact to help wind up the players. Firstly, good to see a Budgie actually admitting what everybody knew about your captains tactics. Secondly, does he really have to do that in a friendly, its bad enough in a proper game, BUT A FRIENDLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! where the hell is his professional morals. Great advert for NCFC!
Fox was one of our unsung heroes last season and was great last night. As for Johnson I would say it was a bit early to say he is rubbish or no good so I think he needs to be given another chance. But based on how good crofts was last season I would rather play him.
i'm certainly not writing the lad off! i'm just saying he is the only one of the new signings who seems to lack that bit of class. he will still do a decent job when asked, but of all the newbies, he seems the most likely to miss out in my opinion.
Didn't realise that Kenny. Maybe he should have smoked more. He may even have been as good as Socrates. Wasn't he reported to be on something close to 60 a day?
If I am honest, I don't know it was 20 a day, but he was definately a smoker. Might have been a little lighter than that.
Oh he's definitely a smoker! Went down to Brighton for our game against them in League One a couple of years ago, we were staying in the same hotel as the boys and one time I popped out for a *** myself, saw Chippy already there puffing away and 'pretended' I didn't have a lighter so I could cadge use of his! Tried to have a bit of a chat with him but he looked like he had things on his mind so didn't pester him too much. They do say you should never meet your heroes after all. He's probably still my all time favourite Canary player, the guy just oozed class from every pore and I am in complete agreement with the comments about Fox being the best player we've had in that mould since. He is immense and is rapidly becoming my favourite out of the current squad, definitely our unsung hero from last year and the starting point of so much of our good play. I think he can definitely make the step up to such ilustrious company in the PL and would certainly would one of the first names down on my teamsheet (and not far from being one of the first of Lambo's if you ask me). Superb signing for 65k, we have so so much to thank Colchester for it's untrue. Lambert, Fox and Tierney for less than 500k the lot - unbelievable business from a club/chairman that supposedly hates us so much lol
I still think it's a bit premature to say that. But we will see 10 games into the season when our squad may well be the same every week.
You'd be amazed who actually smokes I think players these days tend to take better care of themselves but Johann Cruyff, David Ginola and Bebratov are all smokers, well Cruyff stopped after heart surgery in the 90's but he was a 20+ a day smoker whilst playing.
Serge Blanco the legendary French Rugby player supposedly smoked upwards of 80 a day and was one of the greatest players of all time
Unlike the Town players who within 3 minutes of the start of the match nearly started a big punch up, short memories much?
