Probably encourages it as part of his "development", that's fine and good but his development is actually costing us points, if he passed we might have actually got a draw today.

I wouldn't mind if he was reasonably good at it but the truth is he's a very poor striker of the ball, he should do his practicing during training.

I'm sure he's encouraging it. If he isn't, Redmond is either incredibly stubborn (and needs taking down a peg or two) or incredibly dense.

I don't think he's dense, he seems brighter than your average footballer when I've seen him talking on TV.

I understand you guys criticising him, and yes his final ball or decision making is not always the best. Saying that CH has almost been forced to play him through injuries, and at age 19 Im sure he would of liked to use him more sparingly. He is positive though and undoubtedly has great potential if he can address the above issues. One of the main issues that maybe makes Redmond look poor on occasion is that he is passed the ball and has no team mate within 20m of him. He has no real choice but to run at the defence or play long passes which are more likely to go astray. So often we play the ball wide and everyone else moves central, limiting the wide players options. When we play well as in parts yesterday it was often when the wide players are given support, such as linking up with the full backs.

I was thinking the same thing. He has come close a few times and pulled it off once against Southampton but really he isn't Christiano Ronaldo so he shouldn't have so much confidence in his shooting ability. I get the impression that Hoots has actually told players to pass to Redmond at every possible opportunity where he just wastes it, really frustrating and uninspired. The reason we looked relatively good yesterday compared to the Fulham game was that we were attacking through Wes as well which they didn't expect. I have to say I thought Russ was more dangerous than Redmond, but Josh Murphy achieved in 10 minutes exactly the same as what Redmond did in 90.

Going to add my 10 pence and to say that overall we played really well yesterday. We were excellent but very good; our passing was quite sloppy at times and our final ball was poor as it has been most of this season. But we were against a United side shorn of Wayne Rooney and van Persie that looked distinctly mediocre. They just didn't really have a player who could create chances so we were actually fairly comfortable defending against them. Once Welbeck came on they looked much better and a threat on the break although they scored their only really good chance which arose after a fortuitous deflection from Ryan Bennett's clearance. Make no mistake that we were the better side and deserved a comfortable 2 - 0 win, but there is actually still room for improvement! It was great to see us pressing and getting in the faces of United and I have to see I wish we could play with that intensity every game. If we had produced the same performance against Fullham for instance, like Hull we may have been celebrating a 6 - 0 victory. It has to be said that Vidic and Smalling were both superb for United. I guess we're a bit unlucky that our opponents defenders are always switched on and in good form against us. It is a hard defeat to take but we must build on it starting against Palace.

What was good to see was that all three players Hughton brought into the side played very well so I can drag out the cliché that they are hungry to get their places back in the team.

Ruddy only had a few routine saves to make and you can't really blame anybody for the goal we shipped. Russell Martin and Robert Snodgrass were both superb IMO, it is great to watch that right sided partnership that served us so well last season playing like it was last season again! Bassong managed to concentrate for a full 90 minutes and Ryan Bennett looked very comfortable at the back; it will be harsh to drop him for Turner but Turner is out best player thus far so Hughton has a decision there. Olsson was ok today, to be honest I don't think him and Redmond work well together. Olsson is an attacking full-back but Redmond doesn't link-up with him, he just dribbles and crosses/shoots tamely to the goalkeeper. We didn't really create anything on that left side all match and I gotta agree with the sentiment that Redmond has to be less greedy. Johnson and Fer were both playing very deep and did a top job screening the defence (hence lack of clear cut chances) but as a consequence weren't really there to help out attacking. Both retained the ball reasonably well and 9 times out of 10 we would have won so it is unfair to criticise Hughton on that this time. Hoolahan was our best player by a mile this game. He created a plethora of chances for others and almost scored twice. The United defence just couldn't seem to get close to him; I was surprised by his inclusion tbh but now he deserves a chance in the team. Hooper had a couple of chances and couldn't take them but it is nice to see that he can hold the ball up well and do a job as a lone front-man.
