The commentary are absolutely slaughtering Aarons. Focusing on the Zaha goal last week too. Someone is trying to drive his price down eh.
Pink Un is having a go at him and Pukki, two of our most loyal and capable servants of the last few years. I guess football fans just reflect society at large. Everyone feels so entitled these days.
I think it is completely wrong to pick on just one or two players. We were playing the best team in Europe by far who have players not even on the pitch today who are worth more than our entire team put together. We tried our best for the entire 90 mins and were not disgraced especially as the extent of the defeat was not a fair reflection of our performance. Realistically we could be in for the same again next match but these two games were never games we could expect anything else.
We'd be nowhere near the PL without Pukki and Aarons. Yes Max had a bad night but it's a rare occurrence and Byram looked class when he came on. I was very impressed by Rashica's performance as he continues to improve with every game. At last we're seeing his ability to take on and beat defenders at full tilt that was suggested so strongly in his compilation videos. Gilmour really put himself about and is also looking the part now. It's a pity that it's Liverpool next as that will be just as tough.
Aarons gave the penalty away, but had literally nothing to do with Zaha's goal? He was covering the inside channel whilst Placheta closed down Zaha. Placheta made the mistake of showing Zaha inside.
I like Aarons he appears to have a great attitude and appears to have potential to play at a higher level, but I do think he's overrated. There's a reason why top teams keep looking at him and not following through with their interest. He's better going forward than he is at defending, but for me his crossing needs to improve. Defensively he's poor in the air, often makes mistakes and doesn't read the game particularly well. His development seems to have stalled and I don't see much improvement in his performances this PL season over the last PL season. Both the Palace penalty and the first goal yesterday were down to him. Does he have potential, Yes, is he good enough for a top 6 team, No, Will he be good enough in the future, I doubt it. If I'm honest I would play a fully fit Byram over him in any game we weren't in control of. On the plus side he's still young and has potential to get better, although I fear he's reached his peak, which for me is lower PL level. If we go down, then if we can get anywhere near the price for him, that some fans think he's worth, I'd sell him and invest the money elsewhere. Do I blame him for yesterdays result, no of course not. Did he make some big errors, Yes. Should he be singled out for criticism, No. He's lucky he's not Scottish, if he was large sections of our fan would be making him a scapegoat, in the same way they do to Hanley & McLean.
I'm not sure I agree that Arrons had nothing to do with the goal. I don't doubt that S&S had a plan to try and deal with Zaha, which seemed to some part to involve Placheta & Aarons doubling up on him. Without knowing what they were asked to do, I don't think it's possible to conclude that Aarons wasn't at fault, at least to some extent, although like you I think most, if not all of the fault lies with Placheta. Not that I think either player was responsible for the result.
We didn't really expect any points from ManCity and the same is true for Liverpool, but we move into winnable games after that. Burnley play Liverpool today and Newcastle play Villa. If they both lose we won't have lost much ground on those around us with ManCity out of the way. Positives are that Normann is gaining match fitness again and we have a full choice of midfielders available. Rashica is now looking like the attacking threat we hoped he would be and Sargent also adds a greater attacking threat as well as his pressing and defensive abilities. The defence is settled and developing as a unit in front of Gunn, who at 7.0 was our highest ranked player on WhoScored yesterday.
Disappointing result but it is more important that we beat teams around us such as Newcastle, Burnley, Brentford to give ourselves a chance of staying up. We are fighting to stay in this league, not fighting to win the premier league title. A few years ago Leicester looked down and out and look what happened
Man City are so good, but when you have unlimited funds that's what you get. Even though we lost four nil we never expected to win. If it were the other way round the penalty wouldn't be given and VAR wouldn't have checked. Move on, Liverpool expect the same, but then we need to start winning again i we are to stand any chance.
Cost of Man City squad £926m with an eye watering wage bill Norwich are about £140m which is still a huge amount of money. Part of that is Kabak Normann Gilmore & Williams as well as the market value of players like Max I'm guessing.
Makes a lot of sense but who do you leave out? With hindsight might have been a good idea against Zaha and Sterling.
How about 2 goalkeepers ? Angus got done twice by the same shot , 2 right backs to mop up the danger and an extra keeper to cover the other side .
Not necessarily GE. Rashica Pukki Sargent Giannoulis Gilmour Aarons Williams Gibson Hanley Byram Gunn With Sargent dropping back into an 8 man low block when we're defending: Rashica Pukki Giannoulis Gilmour Sargent Aarons Williams Gibson Hanley Byram Gunn
