Normann and Gilmour on the bench. A midfield pairing of McLean and PLM. Smith isn't afraid to change things even after a win.
Perhaps, but wouldn't the Man City game be the one we rest them for? EDIT: Maybe he doesn't think Gilmour will be suited to this kind of game and better suited to Man City?
We have a better recent record against Man City than Palace, don’t we?… But joking aside I get the point. That being said - Normann especially is just returning from injury and we know Gilmour’s strength is not as a defending battling midfielder, which a 442 warrants I think. Smith is best-placed to know which of our midfielders is fit and McClean cannot really be dropped given his set piece threat.

Smith is a much more pragmatic manager than Farke: this team seems to scream going for an ugly win. No tippy-tappy pleasing-on-the-eye stuff any more. On the other hand, Smith seems much more flexible. If it isn't working, he'll make changes, and not in the 85th minute.
Yeah it’s the continental vs british manager style cliche I don’t think we’ll find Guardiola watching our games out of choice any more
Interesting to see Zimbo on the bench, good to have him back, hope all his injury problems are behind him and Smith can get him back to the way he used to defend for us or better. (remember that headed clearance v Wolves a few seasons back?)
