I have just looked at the stats for the game on the BBC.... Bolton had 55% - so, for a change - going by the stats, we had less of the ball, did not dominate as much as previous games, yet looked perfectly comfortable for 86 minutes! Strange old game, this football
Not so sure I agree with the highlighted bit. Certainly in the first half, Bolton had a lot of the ball and passed it quite well but without creating anything (sounds familiar?), and although City steeped it up a gear in the 2nd half, Bolton still had good periods of possession but again mostly ineffectual.
Get in - missed last night as was tucked up in bed after a marathon relay through the desert. Top result. Happy weekend all.
This was the very point I made on a recent thread if you recall. Possession stats rarely translate into the scoreline and it depends where the possession is. Incisive attacks mean immediate results or loss of the ball (almost said possession again!). Still, nice to be up in the top three again and hopefully we have started a new positive run.
Just read the match report on the BBC website (was volunteering at the Norwich Beer Festival last night) and see we had 19 shots on goal, with 6 on target - the odds are definitely improving and reading some of the other reports, we carried quite a threat.
Agreed it doesn't seem to make much sense in the same vein as loaning Bassong to Watford, but he should at least get some 'game time' there, which he seems unlikely to get if he stays here - as he seems to be quite a way down being picked to even be in the subs. I really rate him btw!!!!
I tend to agree and I'd certainly like to see him at least on the bench, but feel he lacks he lacks match fitness, so the loan does sound like a good move.
Unless it's a really short loan, I do feel it's leaving us short of attacking midfielders. Murphy was the only option from the bench last night in that department.
Bennett is a useful all-rounder in that he can play as a winger, in the hole or even at RB in an emergency. I can see a short-term loan to sharpen up his fitness, but I'd hate to see him go permanently.
'Dead' pleased with last night. Feel that we 'exorcised some demons', having not won at home for two months. Lafferty was playing like a man 'possessed' and had his best game in a Norwich shirt last night. I know Leeds fans said we'd see the best from Howson if we played him further forward. He was fantastic last night. Some lovely passes/touches to set up the goal and play others in.
Very true, TMY&G! Howson and O'Neil bring a much more balanced and skillful linkage from midfield into attack as shown by Howson's through-ball for the first goal. His pace and box to box abilities make that possible.
Must put Adams in a quandry as to witch is our best midfield permutation. Well taken ghouls by Jerome - who must be nursing a helluva brews on his damaged knee. Still broom for improvement at the back though (coat!)
One other thing I'd say is that having Martin as a CB does give a bit more confidence when were playing out from the back. He picked some great passes out to Lafferty from the CB position. Got to have someone like that alongside Tina who's more of a head it / kick it type.
