VAR is a nightmare. We're stuck with it because sports administrators a) love their technological toys b) will never admit they have made a mistake. But it is used totally arbitrarily: sometimes only if the ref has made an 'obvious' error, sometimes it seems the off-field refs can't wait to get involved. If it was intended to increase fairness, it has failed. Since it has big drawbacks a) it breaks the flow of a match b) it undermines the authority of the ref on the pitch, it can only be justified if it has big advantages: i.e. that it really does add to the fairness of matches. It doesn't. IMO, it should be dumped.

There is a big difference between VAR and Hawkeye (and goal-line technology). A tennis ball or a badminton shuttle clearly either touches the line or it doesn't; all the football is either over the line or it isn't. Most decisions in football are not of this nature, and no matter how many times we see something and from how many angles we see it, we are often still unsure whether it was a foul or not. Another reason it has failed.

Horrible viewing (not our play, which was lovely, but our luck). If any of:
Tettey had jumped a couple of inches
Zimmermann has stayed on his feet
    VAR had behaved
we would be walking with three points

I can’t help but feel though, that for all the disgrace of the VAR decision, two of those three were in our hands and so again we let ourselves down...

some great football though and I think it really does show that the league table is massively unfair on us. If we get relegated and only sell one or two players I feel pretty confident we would do well in the Championship

We should sell the tea lady and sign a Nigerian witch doctor.

    Our luck has been horrendous.

I suppose, bearing in mind who the match referee was, we were lucky to to get a point. He's never been our friend <bah>

i still think we have a mini run in us. Should we go down, it will have been emotional.

It's the wrong sort of emotional if you feel cheated by the officials <ok>
