There are three reasons why I am averse to a takeover by a wealthy benefactor Cromer, and they are money, money, and money. I would hate the idea that we could just buy our way to success at the flick of a coin, it wouldn´t be the club I´ve loved and supported all my life, it would tear the heart out of it. I dare say I´m fairly alone with that view, but I´m not a supporter of the ´if you can´t beat ´em, join ´em´ club, far better that we retain some semblance of integrity, even if all around us are selling their souls. Can´t change how I feel and I certainly won´t try to, just to conform to the popular view.
No guarantees it is the popular view, I'm sure there are numerous fans who don't want to see the club 'sell it's soul'. But I'd rather see us compete and be the best we can be, rather than spending the rest of my days watching the gulf between the Prem and the league ever widening and wondering "what if?"
RBF and Cromer (and KIO and others) - you all make good points and I guess I'm 60/40 in agreement with RBF, even though I've only been a city fan for the past 15 years or so. The other possibility (though I know it's a long shot) is that AN's policy of building for the future and that we unearth a Gareth Bale or similar through the Academy may just come off - we can but hope.
Us (QPR)! Having rich owners is indeed no guarantee of success, but in our case Briatore et al saved us from going bust - and that felt like success at the time Just avoid a takeover where the new owners have massive egos and want to run everything themselves. Jump onto the Leeds board for more detail on this
Sheffield Wednesday were close to going up last year so a 0-0 was in no way a disaster, I just find it puzzling that nobody on here has mentioned that we started the game with 1 striker in the squad and could do with buying one in the transfer window.
Not leaving, but when things feel hostile and our own supporters start attacking each other it's best to stay away for a bit. It's not a nice place when people start making digs at other posters, it's almost uncomfortable. People moaning or complaining doesn't bother me as emotions are running high and need to vent, but at the same time there's no need to argue with people who's in the ''positive camp'' and vise versa. After all, we're all on the same side and should be able to discuss things in a civil way.
I do understand RBF and others’ views, and having watched City through thick and thin over more years than I care to remember, I probably agree. I’d watch us whatever league we were in. The hard facts are that with the obscene amounts of money from TV rights in the premier league, and rich benefactors even in the championship, the gap is widening exponentially. City coming third in ’92/'93 calls to mind films like ‘Passport to Pimlico’ in that that world just doesn’t exist anymore. We do it now, or at least soon, or it doesn’t happen at all as far as I can see. Maybe that’s a good thing, some will think so, others not. At least at this level we are competitive, and the reality is that if we are content to tread water now, then here we’ll stay for the foreseeable future.
I'm on the fence with regards to selling out to a rich foreign benefactor. On the one hand you could see WCT at carrow road, wins against the leading lights in the PL and even Europe (And who wouldn't love another european adventure after so many years away?) On the other hand you may get QPResque WCT! Leeds, Cardiff or Pompey like owners. And even if the owners are decent, there is that other pang, this country in general has been selling off it's silverware for too long. It seems like there is precious little left that hasn't been sold off to foreign investment groups. So for me barring someone rich, local and invested in our club more than just financially it's not something I can get excited by. With all that said, with either rich foreigners or several generations of the Smith's and Jones's it will still be my club and I will enjoy what ever happens riding our great yellow and green rollercoaster Bah!
Let's stay anachronistic, small time, boing - boing Norwich. It's better than being anachronistic, small time, boring boring Ipswich.
Bloody hell! I didn't realise we LOST 0-0 yesterday! Or rather thats what a few on here would have us believe! I've only seen highlights, so I can't get a true understanding of how the game played out but it looked like we were actually creating some decent chances and other than some better finishing and decent defending from the Owls, we could have had 2 or 3 goals. Wednesday had 2 big chances but that was about it it seems. I guess some people are only happy when they have something to complain about though.
Very much feel the same, Colk. It wasn't a great performance, but it wasn't rubbish either. Some people will only accept the former (and then usually dismiss it because the opposition were 'rubbish')! This says it all for me: http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic..._s_sheffield_wednesday_frustrations_1_4656806 Retaining both Pinto and Klose has been two 'successes' in this transfer window.
Wise words Rick - both Pinto and Klose will be key players for us this term and holding onto them was vital. I missed the game on Saturday as I was away for the weekend but I always felt it would be a very tight game against one of the best sides in the division. On the face of it a draw would seem disappointing following the euphoria of the Blackburn walkover, but not every team will be as bad as they were and not every team will be as good as the Wendies so all in all a point against one of our closest rivals ain't a bad thing. Tomorrow night won't be easy either - Bristol City are playing well and Tammy Abraham is a threat so we need to be mindful of their abilities. I read somewhere over the weekend that Bristol City and Huddersfield Town were "unlikely" leaders of the league - didn't they say the same about Leicester in the Prem last year and look what happened there. Let's not under estimate the Robins and get behind the team from the off.
It's good to see that we are having a reasoned debate on the result on Saturday and that's what a forum should be about.
Despite what I said earlier guys, I've found time to put together a proper thread for tomorrow night's match. It's nearly finished and should be up and running by around 10:00PM this evening. I'm bloody hungry right now so I'm taking a break and having dinner !
It's what we do on here, 99% of the time - but rest assured, anything out of of line and our well-honed team of mods will crush it like a cockroach under a Cuban heel
