Surprised nobody has thrown their season tickets at the manager like the Gunny Colchester United debacle
I think the manager owes fans an apology for this performance. Just because the season is over, doesn’t mean stop playing.
The defensive weaknesses have been there all season and it's getting worse not better. Why hasn't something been done about it by now? A complete farce.
We kept clean sheets against Sunderland and West Brom in our last 3 games. I don’t think tactics can account for some players just completely switching off mentally. 1st goal - Fisher has 2 men at the back post, should Duffy be with their striker. Fisher doesn’t challenge for the header and Long should do better IMO 2nd goal - if Duffy runs instead of jogging back after the ball goes behind him, he could cut out the cross from Murphy. Cordoba slides across and misses it and McLean isn’t near his man 3rd goal - penalty, poor challenge from Nunez 4th goal - Long saves the ball and Duffy stands there and watches it roll to one of their players in slow motion with no attempt to challenge him or block the cut back 5tb goal - Sainz switches off and leaves his man, Sorensen leaves his man to cover for Sainz and the balm is cut back to the free man to shoot. In each case there are mental defensive lapses that directly cause the goals, but that’s not to say that JHT shouldn’t shoulder some blame as to get to those positions the defense was left exposed, particularly in the first half. But again, Slimane didn’t help Fisher at all
Complete reset needed this summer. Cannot see JHT being in charge next season, and what exactly has Wilshire done to collect his salary? Cordoba is not good enough, but nor is Doyle if we are thinking of trying to retain him. Sign Wright and Dobbin. Our defence needs a radical overhaul, though Fisher, Chrisene and Lehovo look to be players to progress in ability, but both full backs being relative novices is not good. Duffy and McLean should leave. But what worries me most is the teams total inability to string passes together in any consistent way. I cannot remember our defence, or for that matter our midfield, ever being so fragile. What chances Millwall will murder us on Monday. JHT is totally out of his depth.
But the same concessions happened against both Plymouth and Burnley. The goals conceded stat for 43 games doesn't lie. Our defensive tactics have been rubbish too many times (20th in goals conceded).
Not a rant DD, but an objective analysis of a dire situation. I cannot recall a worse City defence, but are the players worse or is the training and tactics worse?
