Dean Smith's take on proceedings https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/12493431/smith-man-utd-players-refereed-game
Its beyond me why Sorenson hasn't been starting for us - the lad has always put a solid shift in and has rarely put a foot wrong since he joined us. Today just served to highlight that further.
The fact that De Gea was MOM says it all really. On a side note, my daughter got married yesterday afternoon, reason I'm back in UK, and her father-in-law is a MU fan.
Some people have been critical of Webbers recruitment recently but just looking at yesterdays squad named, we have some decent squad depth. We were without 7 players yesterday in Zimbo, Gibson, Omobamidele, Williams, Normann, Tzolis and Rashica. Conceivably 6 of those are in with a shout of being the part of a starting 11, that’s half a first team. To then manage to put out the team we did and for them to put on the performance they did is encouraging, I think we won the game with a fully fit team. And we only had to bring 1 player up from the u23s.
Almost certainly because the handball was judged not deliberate. On the contrary, Dalot appears to have deliberately kept his arms close to his sides to minimise the risk of handball. It was only because he half turns his back on the shot that any question of a handball offence arises, and it would be far fetched to argue that he does that in order to increase the chance of the ball striking his forearm.
Thought Ronaldo was an absolute embarrassment yesterday. What is the point in being so strong if a breath of wind can knock you over?! Aarons was silly to put his arms on him (defending crosses is a weakness for him, big time), but no way does he do enough to bring him down. Thought we deserved so much more yesterday. Sorenson was outstanding, as was Kabak. Just a shame De Gea was so good. We need to be more clinical in front of goal. I can't think of anyone we could sign to score goals on our budget. Idah is still young, but needs to go out on loan to play regular football. Sargent is also still young, but keeps forgetting his is a footballer everytime he's near the goal.
I don’t blame Max there actually, I think the mistake is allowing a mismatch with Max up against Ronaldo- Ronaldo is tall, strong and excellent in the air. Any time he is in the box he should be marked by Sorensen or Kabak. One mistake, we get punished, the Premier League is harsh and not helped by extremely inconsistent refereeing.
There are many pundits, fans and even the manager who have stated that we need to be more clinical with our finishing. Despite all these statements we have not been more clinical and 8 goals in 15 matches only emphasises the major problem that this team has. We have created many very good chances and had only a few chances been converted into goals, we would be at least six points better of now. Big decision in January: do we strengthen the squad with a player or players who will cost very little and might improve thing or do we bite the bullet and sign somebody with a decent track record scoring goals who will improve things. Relegation is very much on the cards if we don’t make the right decision.
Reminds me of that old joke where you ask someone "What's the difference between an elephant and a post box?"
More like the difference between a handball incident for them and a handball incident for us. Totally different things!
If I remember aright, the answer to that old joke is along the lines of "Thank goodness none of you are referees!"
BBC is reporting that a number of United players & staff have tested positive for Covid today https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59625399https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59625399
Yes but the start of the season we didn't have a fit squad and our tactics went tits up. The midfield runners will make the difference, if it were not for a couple of world class saves we would have at least got a point. We will play worse and win. Amazingly we are still not cut adrift.... but yes we are still odds on to be relegated.
