I expected Nelson to start and was a bit disappointed when Cam was named as starter. But, I don't think it was personal.
Maybe but as you rightly point out the issue is our defence and neither Hoolahan nor Oliveira bring much to the party in that respect. From a defence point of view we seem to have carried on from where we left off last season and the only common denominator is Martin
If we need our creative playmaker and striker to defend from corners instead of the other 9 then we will concede lots more cheep goals again this season.
Bothers to listen to interviews when Norwich lose but doesn't bother to go to Norwich games. Great fan
Martin is always the problem - even when he doesn't play. We had 3CBs, 2WBs and a DM, all of whom bear some responsibility. The common element for me is the tactics involved - sending both WBs flying forward and leaving the 3 CBs to cover the whole back line. It was made to order for 2 quick strikers to come down the middle against a single CB. If one WB had stayed back or Reed had dropped deeper it would have been 2 against 2 and the other CBs could have drawn in to help. DF is going to have to adjust to this league soon or it's going to be a very long season.
The first goal had nothing to do with the WBs. These two giants we have bought at CB are sh1te in the air. Neither has won an aerial duel! Klose said when he first came that the Champ takes some getting used to and that in his first game he came off with a sore head because they just dont head it as much in the German leagues. They will need to learn soon! 3rd goal was just poor down our right side, not stopping the cross and no1 picking Grabben up at the back (Franke). I also think Gunn could have done more for 1st and 3rd. Wasnt brave and didnt throw himself at Grabben (knelt down instead) for the first and then didnt command his box vs a much shorter Grabben for the last.
It had nothing to do with the WBs because they were both too far up the pitch. We can't afford to leave the defense so exposed with the CBs we have. Klose returning should help, but the tactics have to improve as well. QPR will provide the next test, but I feel Holloway will be rubbing his hands with glee at the prospect.
First goal came from a goal kick... nowt to do with anyone being too high up the pitch. It was a missed header by one CB who is useless in the air followed by a missed clearance by the other who (quite rightly) expected his partner to win a bloody header vs someone half a foot shorter! Both Zimmermann and Franke have failed to impress me in terms of aerial battles which in this league you have to be winning 90% of as a 6'4 CB. It is criminal to concede from something as basic as a goal kick.
