Pukki has looked tired lately and I was looking for Rhodes to replace him from around the 60 minute mark.
Disappointing to lose today, as I thought we played well and didn't get the 'rub of the green' The crowd really got behind the team, right up until the final whistle and I wouldn't like to pick a MotM, but was impressed with TC and Tettey. played well. Just checked and AT is only on 2 Yellows, he used to pretty much get one every game!!!! Goal attempts - Canaries 15 Potters 8 On target – Canaries 3 Potters 2 Blocked Shots – Canaries 8 Potters 0
My concern before the game was that Stiepermann was brought in to deal with physical teams and he does that very well. He was less effective against a footballing side at Derby. It's difficult for DF to change a team on a 9 match unbeaten run, but sometimes it may need to be done. I'd have preferred to see Rhodes start up front and Pukki playing behind him and between Buendia and Cantwell. That's my preference though, not a criticism of DF who I think has now made us serious promotion contenders.
I know Stiepermann has been highly praised for his performances and understand not wanting to change a winning side by going forward now I’d prefer to see Vrancic at number 10, or McLean, just feel they carry more of a goal threat.
The International break has come at a good time , we have a few coming back from injury and Farke can work with the guys ot on international duty at Colney
Terrific reaction from our fans yesterday and despite losing and lots getting soaked in the rain, most fans were leaving the stadium pretty upbeat. http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/canaries-fans-react-to-home-stoke-defeat-1-5726462. I see TC got the sponsors MotM - he was excellent/. Looks DF could be on his way to earning an extension to his contract - especially in the way he's developing young players!!!!
It was great to hear a rousing OTBC just after the final whistle. It was one of those 'we'll play far worse than that and win' days. Looking ahead, we have the return of Hernandez, Hanley, Marshall and McLean to look forward to, but they'll have to fight for their places. I hope that DF is strong enough to put tactics before sentiment. The loss means that changes can be made and the best team to beat Forest has to be the priority. Hernandez should be fully fit after the break, probably in place of Buendia and I would bring Rhodes back as well. We need to score more goals. Pukki is able to play as both an AM and a second striker and the two together would make us more potent and able to turn possession into goals. As CS says, McLean is well suited to our style of play but the competition for midfield places is intense and it shows the strength in depth we now have. DF needs to make the most of that.
Just seen some stats from the last round of fixtures. In the championship: Number of passes attempted: 1st Pass success %: 1st Aerial success: 1st Dribbles: 2nd Possession: 2nd Shots: 6th Here's some stats from the first 11 weeks: please log in to view this image
That's brilliant DH. I use WhoScored's Match Centre during matches and these stats are reflected well there, as we're consistently dominating possession, pass success rate, dribbles, etc. It seems that DF is establishing a sophisticated and effective style of playing and the players are now making it work. If they can go on doing this on a consistent basis, we could continue to do well this season and beyond.
All these stats around passing completion and successful dribbles etc do sound like a salesman at his end of quarter review who's missed his targets but explaining to the boss that he's made loads of calls and been on lots of client meetings etc. please log in to view this image
