Sorry I'm not being clear - we weren't clinical enough because Jerome and Bradders missed clear unsaveable chances. Rusty was clinical because there was nothing Butland could really do to save from there. We created enough to win the game even with Butland on fire. And we have to accept that if we're shooting from positions where a goalkeeper needs to pull off an incredible save, then in the PL there is a good chance he will. Because there are some incredible keepers.
All I'm saying is, had that been Jerome, there are a few on here who would have accused him of missing three one-on-ones rather than crediting the goalie!
Fair point - don't get me wrong the performance and the season so far, great. But I don't think Neil will let the team rest on those laurels and I think the two things that really need work are finishing (or getting more often into clear goal scoring situations) and the whole team defending set pieces
You may well be right, Rob, but IMO the long range shots were well placed in the corners and tested Butland to the extreme and he passed that test big time. Yes BJ could have headed that late shot, but he only has a split second to decide. Agree completely about better defending on set-pieces, as that has really been our Achilles heel so far!
And I'm sure AN and his coaching staff will be working on that to try and put a stop to the number of goals conceded at free kicks/corners!!!
I kind of agree with Rob on the need to be more clinical. We were good and we created a number of chances. Some of those chances were very good and although some were well placed. I can't help thinking that the placing was good with a degree of sacrifice to power. E.g. Dorrans shot from the right at the bottom right hand corner. Great technique to control the shot and hit it at the bottom corner, still an excellent save but it was hardly travelling like a BJ 2014-15 thunderbolt. Redmond also placed toward the post across the keeper. Fine, good effort but, 10% more power and he doesn't get to it or if he proper wellies it on the deck it probably goes through butlands legs before he can react and move his feet. As Rob says Butland may have made some exceptional saves, but as a striker you really want to make it impossible to be saved worldie or otherwise. Keepers these days are so big and generally athletic that given time they can reach any corner of the goal and even more so if they are positioned correctly, so you need to reduce that time by giving the ball a little more fizz! Bah!
Excellent article by Gary Gowers in 'My football Writer' - http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...ime-round-city-are-giving-it-a-right-good-go/ Some excellent comments too - who were the idiots booing the drinks break??? As one comment said, they probably couldn't run from one end of the ptch to the other without stopping for a drinks break!!!1 Edit - did anyone see the 'speed stats' at the end of MotD 2 - Brady managed just over 34kph, which I calculate to be around 18 seconds for 100M???
Saw on twitter just after the match, a bloke behind the tweeter said, "They earn all that money and they have to stop for a drink?" Priceless!
Cricketers have a short 'drinks break' virtually every hour - and apart from the bowlers and occasional deep fielder, they don't really run around much. No one gripes at that and our boys bust a gut!!
It's a lot quicker than that, JR. 34kph is 21.11mph. That's fast running - 10.58 seconds for the 100m.
