Clutching at straws, losing to Sheffield is better than losing to Blackburn. If we can win on Friday, we're back in the mix. Can't see it, though. We just look like a tired side and club at the moment, desperate to get it all over and done with and start again next season.
If he leaves, I don't think he stays in England, because as you say I don't see him fitting a higher placed team here. But I think if he wants to challenge for titles, there's plenty of Scandinavian, Swiss, Austrian, Belgian, etc teams where he'd potentially get to play in a European competition too. Or he could go to the MLS where the defending level is traditionally very poor, and have a good time.
