Our last game before the shutdown for the World Cup Finals in Qatar, we welcome Middlesbrough to Carrow Rd. They sit 17th in the league, so we really need to collect 3 points from this one Highlights of our Playoff victory above. More content to follow
Posted this on the Today's Games thread following 'Boro's Tuesday night 0:3 demolition of Blackpool at Bloomfield Road: "Anyone who has kept an eye on performance tables rather than league tables will know that Middlesbrough are one of two Championship teams who, like us, have featured consistently in the top four (the other being West Brom). The Readings and Sunderlands of the league come and go, but we three are always up there. At the beginning of October, 'Boro dropped into the bottom three after defeat at Coventry. They are now 16th, helped by a 7 from 12 points haul since Michael Carrick took over as manager (LWDW). Should be a good, competitive game."
This hardly seems like a ringing endorsement for this metric, when the team who are top are actually in the bottom three, and the team who are undefeated in second are closer to the relegation zone than the play-offs. After almost half a season.
Agreed, it highlights that it is deeply flawed. However, those two clubs are particular anomalies - as a general rule I would say it’s accurate to about 15-20%, which means it’s got some utility so long as used very cautiously.
I'm not saying the metric is useless - I have little doubt that both West Brom and Middlesbrough will ultimately finish much higher than their current position, and might even make the play-offs. But I do question whether this metric tells us anything that the eye-test wouldn't.
10 minutes of added time at Man City. This is really becoming a joke. Some games 3 minutes, some 10 or even more. I think it's time for a clock which gets stopped every time the ball goes out of play.
True, but time-wasting is becoming a real blight on the game, especially players going down with fake injuries. Stopping the clock during every break in play but not adding any extra time at all would stop this in its tracks.
I agree Gozo. It wouldn't be difficult for the 4th official to manage the time and keep the stadium clock up to date.
Yes, but I'm sure the authorities are much more interested in dumping new VAR montrosities onto us than actually do something which most fans would support. We are sh*t on their shoes, Rick.
