I know Spurs fans that chant Yid army for them it's not derogatory banning it would probably be counter productive. Years ago I watched us play QPR and for the entire match they chanted "Jackson is a a homosexual " at Matt Jackson. At one point he even put his arm on his hip to do a camp mannerism and everyone laughed . No idea why they were picking on him and I don't think he's even gay . In my limited life experience if someone insults you and you react then they are more likely to keep doing it . A few weeks ago a wasp went into my drink and I jumped up and panicked. My dad laughed and said " You big bloody **** " . In today's world I could have reported that as a hate crime . I thought it was a victimless normal funny human interaction.
I agree with you that when it’s personal, the best policy is to ignore or make a joke of it to turn it back. And I also agree that if you’re not offended don’t engineer artificial offence. But the fact is some people do now find “rentboy” offensive and the only way to stop that is for it to be called out. Like calling out sexist remarks and even manhandling in the office - just ten years ago this was often seen from certain types of older generation and partly it’s true that they were a product of their time, but if it hadn’t been for en masse calling out that behaviour (rather than specific complaints) then the dramatic fall over the last few years in those sort of sexist behaviours wouldn’t have happened. I don’t think office life is necessarily perfect for women, and I can’t speak for them, but certainly it seems a lot less macho than it was and the sexist remarks and touching has evaporated (or I’m blind and deaf). And women had laughed it off or got over it for decades before - it took a mass consciousness to make the big difference.
No idea about office sexism but employment law and an HR department should have resolved any of that. We also have strict sexual harassment laws in the UK. Anyhow back on topic If rival football fans know that Billy will lose his nerve and fall apart if they call him a rent boy . Then you can bet your sweet ass this will now become a trend . Gilmore should be camping it up and making light of the "bullies" . I don't think it has anything to do with his feelings it's just victim politics injected into sport , just like the kneeling .
They were scared of him, he took them apart last season and it was the only way they could get at him..., but they never. This kid is made of stronger stuff.
