Can’t see us scoring but DF may decide to put on another striker and play two up front? Nothing to lose
This game and next week were never the ones which would make or break our season. It's the mediocre clubs who doubled us last time - Burnley, Brighton, Watford - that we really have to beat.
Some tired legs out there very little cover for the CB. Caught out through the middle as we pressed up. Decided not to watch the rest.
Amidst all the centre back, defensive midfielder etc debate, let’s face it our biggest weakness is set pieces. It’s killing us again.
And this will really matter against the lower half teams who don't create many chances except from set pieces. We need to sort it out.
Not a lot we can take from that game. We still look poor at the back and blunt at the front (for this level). As with last season, a team that employs a high press just kills our game. It's a tough start and I only hope the players don't get too despondent after they get a similar (or worse) at Man City
He definitely made one off Pukki when put through early on first half. But yep, we did not create enough. And essentially got punished by counterattacking football, Liverpool quite happy to keep us at arm’s length defending easily and then press hard when they sensed the ball wasn’t under control.
Weirdly I’m less bothered by Man City. Partly because we seem to get more lucky breaks against them (whereas versus Liverpool they always seem to play their best against us, as well as get all the luck like that ridiculous pinball assist for their first goal) and partly because I think it doesn’t matter quite as much as the first match of the season. Plus we will be a lot fitter - preseason disruption has not helped at all.
Krul could have done better with a couple of those. If there's anything left in the war chest don't wait until January. Pukki had a terrible Euros and seemed a bit flat again today. Giannoulis did well Tod put a shift in . It's going to be a long season
He saved from Gibson and Hanley in the goalmouth scramble. DF left the subs too late as they all had an impact when they came on. Very impressed with Idah and Sargent in particular, and the latter showed his defensive skills as well. Liverpool were a bit lucky with the first two goals but Salah's strike for the third was pure class. One of the toughest games we'll have and the new players showed a lot of promise.
They were a little quicker than us; some of our break-a-way-chances didn't work because of that. Rashica kept putting crosses into the box with nobody, or just one, of our players there. Overall, I'm not too disappointed with today.
Usually you get a chance for fringe and new players to impress in the League Cup. We have Bournemouth
At the risk of incurring the wrath of many, for the xG lovers Infogol make it 1.64 vs 1.96. Poor finishing from us, not defending… https://www.infogol.net/en/matches/...league/norwich-vs-liverpool-2021-08-14/932689
