Gary G's Sunday column: http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...s-the-canaries-make-it-25-from-a-possible-27/
Well.... on Tuesday I was at work outside in 42C. Via a day in the Perth office and a flight back to England on Thursday I found myself at Carrow Road sitting in the South Stand near the Bolton supporters on Saturday in about 8C for my first game in 5 years and my wife's first game ever. I really enjoyed it, my heart maybe not so much! Wow! I thought we played well in the first half and you could see that the movement was pulling Bolton around leading to more gaps in the second half. I thought Cantwell played well, but at about 80 mins I thought he was making a few mistakes and could have been subbed. Both goals we let in were sloppy, but I don't think Krul was much to blame. Considering 3 defenders were 20 or younger you have to expect some lapses in concentration. I think however diplomatic Farke was being in the news conferences he will be looking at it as a place to improve. Then when Pukki scored, the whole place went mental, including my wife (now a loyal Norwich convert) who screeched herself hoarse. I even woke up today with Farke Life going round my head! Now..... to see if there are any tickets left for boxing day!
Brilliant FML and I think I could watch that winning goal again and again. ESPECIALLY as it burst Leeds fans’ bubble of being ‘Top f the League!!!’
Looks like DF feels that he did - “Just 15 minutes before the first whistle we had to bring in Ben Godfrey, who has not had much game-time. To be told 12 or 13 minutes before the start you are now playing is a big compliment to him - to play such a crucial role against experienced strikers. It was an outstanding performance." Yes, I'd like to see Klose back ASAP.
WhoScored had Godfrey as our second highest rated defender on 6.8 after Aarons on 7.0 (which included his assist). Zimmerman was 6.5 and Lewis 6.4.
I think I'm the odd one out with regards opinions on Godfrey, I've seen very little in the way of negative comments about him. Of course, he's 20 years old and gets no notice that he's playing 90 mins, those are horrible circumstances in which to put a performance in. And he didn't do badly when the ball was on the deck, it's his lack of aerial presence that was the issue. If I were an opposing striker, of the sort we'll see plenty of in the Championship, I'd definitely be targeting Godfrey in the air.
Exactly where Bolton scored their first goal. I guess Hanley will be fit for Bristol if Klose can’t make it, but DF has a problem with the number of ‘home-grown’ players!!!
Wiki - Grant Campbell Hanley is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a defender for Norwich City and the Scotland national team. Possibly!!!
Here's an EDP article from November which lists our HG and Non-HG players. https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwi...ty-ahead-of-their-trip-to-wednesday-1-5763137
At 6ft BG is a bit short for a CB especially against a tall team like Bolton which is good in the air. Bristol City is another team that could give us trouble in the air. For that reason I would much prefer to see Timm back in the line-up.
Quick list of Homegrown and Non Homegrown Players: HOMEGROWN(12): Tim Krul, Aston Oxborough, Max Aarons, Jamal Lewis, Ben Godfrey, Ben Marshall, Grant Hanley, Louis Thompson, Todd Cantwell, Matt Jarvis, Carlton Morris, Jordan Rhodes NON-HOMEGROWN(17): Michael McGovern, Ivo Pinto, Felix Passlack, Christoph Zimmermann, Timm Klose, Alex Tettey, Kenny McLean, Mario Vrancic, Tom Trybull, Moritz Leitner, Marco Stiepermann, Emi Buendia, Onel Hernandez, Teemu Pukki, Dennis Srbeny, Nelson Oliveira If it was UK players, we'd have 14/15.
