Of course I'd love it if this turned out to be correct. Have to wait and see regarding player sales but it's happened all the time I've supported our little provincial club and I see no reason (Webber apart, possibly) for that to change any time soon. Call me a cynic, glass half empty merchant, whatever you want really but I know how easily this board's head gets turned by a waving bank-note.
On the whole, while frustrating, I do think our club has actually sold pretty well. There have been a few players who they might have bargained a bit harder on, but actually we have not really flogged anyone cheap imo Also most of the sales at least in recent years have ended up justifying themselves even if they seemed high risk at first - losing the Murphys has not been a problem, they haven’t pulled up trees, Maddison has been exceptional but the squad has better balance without everything being channeled through him. Our problem has been poor investments on big money signings. That’s what needs to (and seems to have already) change
Edit - IMO Cromer, I expect to lose NO more than 1 or 2 of our starlets and who can blame them. I REALLY expect Bendy/Pukki to stay. and it's BRILLIANT to read how SW 'stole' Bendy from under Leeds' nose!!!
Football is a funny game! (Actually, all we need is for Ipswich to draw!) As for our chances in the PL, I put this on the 'under the radar' thread but I'll repeat it here: My hope is that our team spirit, style of play and togetherness will allow us to compete in the PL. We managed that under Lambert with less skilled players and Holt's leadership. A better example is our team in the early 90s with settled players who knew each others game and finished 3rd one year and 4th the next leading to the zenith of our European exploits. We'll never compete in the expensive players route so we need to find another way. The average age of our squad is 25 years and there is further improvement to come in both skills and interplay. We have an outstanding striker supported by pacey and skilled attacking players who also defend well. I'd like to see the option of 3 at the back to strengthen us defensively, but attack is our strength. With that, 40 points is possible and I think we're capable of that because the PL has always been the aim for these players. If teams like Brighton and Huddersfield can do it, so can we. The Terriers have now run out of steam because they don't have an academy producing quality players. We do, and that's the difference.
Landed in Wuhan 6 hours ago after a 10 hour flight vpn running so I'll try and stay up for the game. Cracked open the Duty free Johnny Walker so not sure I'm gonna make it .
I would not be going for a drink there. Are they doing an impromptu march before the game today? Nothing official has been arranged, but there was talk that there could be one formed by the fans?
