Malky to get us back together, re sign Holt or finds true leader Like him Went out to dinner with some Dutch guys tonight who were not surprised by RvW failure apparently in one Year in the Dutch leaugue he scored 17 goals which got Him noticed but 14 of them were pens ( obviously Snoddy not aware of this !)
Would certainly like to see Drury back at the club in the future in a coaching role. Hucks can be the youths attacking coach and Drury the defensive side. Both Drury and Lappin's professionalism is certainly something I wouldn't mind instilled in the club again too.
The Warnock one's an interesting one, perhaps we need a hard man at the helm for a bit, especially in the CHampionship. He would, I think identify a leader and pull our pants up again. We've had a shocker of a season where nothing has gelled - he might also convince some of the senior players to hang around for a season.
I think Colin would get us in or around the playoffs but I'm not sure he'd be my choice. If was now DM and Tim Sherwood became available I'd move heaven & earth to get him in. He's attacking, not afraid to ruffle a few feathers and likes to play the game properly. It might take a couple of seasons but if we did return he's ready made to carry on in the PL.
can somebody please explain what they are seeing in tim sherwood? if he weren't an ex-player he wouldn't even get a mention and he'd be absolutely catastrophic for this football club. anybody who's watched spurs recently will tell you likewise. he has no idea what he is doing.
He was interviewed and I thought it was decided that he was a poor fit for the club, which is hardly surprising
we missed the boat with warnock - his time has gone. the time to get him in was when worthington was fired, not now
Other folk are now mentioning Warnock- surely he is one of those managers that alienates groups of players, board members, fans, officials etc etc. Even if the idea is that he'd come just for one season is nonsensical. We need a manager who unites the club, develops a footballing ethos and style (something that is seldom achieved in one season), has a sense of progression for the club with a longer term vision than one season. Warnock has a great promotion record, but then it all turns sour- he is a very poisoned chalice. As to the notion his sides have always played good football, i'd suggest most were pretty much hoofball.
i assume for the reason you mention above - not deemed the right fit. he'd have done a better job than peter grant though... agree with your post above though. warnock would be a very inappropriate appointment at this stage.
You have to work with what you can get.People seem to think that top managers will drop everything and head hotfoot for CR.We are a backwater, actually that is the bit I like best about Norwich. But we need to acknowledge our capabilities.Of what is available Warnock or Malky is about as good as it gets.
I cannot believe that there is a groundswell for Colin on this thread, he is a terrible choice and apart from anything else his age would now count against him as well as the fact that to me he is not a Norwich type of manager. I also fail to see the Sherwood logic. he has let himself down if anything since he took the helm at WHL and has become a bit of a laughing stock. Steve Clark is a possibility but was found wanting when things got tough and was shown the door (perhaps too quickly). As I mentioned before although I do not like the guy personally, Lennon would make a lot of sense and it would not be a bad move for him either. I tried to find the odds through the link above but failed, what are they quoting please? Malky, no thanks.
malky mackay is the most sensible appointment we could make at this time if we wish to make an instant return to the top flight. if he had no connection to the club he'd still be top of the list of favourites and that's because he's very suitable for the role of a club who will look to be near the top of the 2nd tier. he's an experienced manager now. he did a bloody good job at watford and a bloody good job at cardiff. will anyone moan if he does a bloody good job at norwich? steve clarke probably fits into a slightly different boat but i could understand why he'd be a good fit for the club too. warnock most certainly does not and neither does sherwood. lennon will be first choice but i do not believe he will come here now. i think he was a shoe-in had we stayed up though.
We're not talking about top managers, we're talking about a range of managers who'd get well paid to come and live in Norwich for a couple of years. There are a finite level of clubs for them to pick from as well.
by the way, i'm sure people will moan about style whenever malky is mentioned. the club will not care - they will want to get promoted asap. they can worry about that later. i'm sure that will piss a number of people off but that's the business they are running right now. if we want to start from scratch, look to youth, effectively toss away our best shot at promotion (ie the first season) then i can only think of one manager who fits the bill and that's karl robinson - he ticks most of the boxes - but even he hasn't gained a promotion! i'd be amazed if the club goes down that route at this time - they might if we don't go up in the first two seasons though. its all about timing and mackay, no matter how you look at it, is the most suitable man around to take us back up and should, in theory, being a popular ex player, keep the fans united - although you'd never guess it from on here
he's been promoted once in the last 8 years, at billionaire-owned qpr, and twice to the premier league in his whole career. edit. bit harsh - i think its three (notts county - did he take them up?) if you include pre-premier league (which sky sports assure me never happened)
My gripe with malky is not about style, its about having someone who can led the club, gain promotion and give the club a half decent chance of staying up. Most folk have talked about the need for managers to be given time to develop a club and playing style, If we get promotion, what then? sack the manager, and appoint someone to try keep the team in the PL for merely financial reasons??
how do we know if malky mackay is capable of keeping a club in the premier league? he wasn't given the chance at cardiff. they weren't even in the relegation zone when he left. clearly his record in the transfer market during last summer was very questionable but he also made some astute signings such as marshall, noone and mutch. i think if he gets the job and managed to take us up (that's still a big 'if') then you have to have faith in the guy. if it doesn't work out it doesn't work out and you reassess. the way things are going we'll never keep a manager for more than 18 months anyway. if we bring in someone who plays in a stylish manner AND wins promotion, is that the only way to keep their job? its all a bit pathetic. i do not believe the fans would be happy with stylish football but poor results. nor will they be happy with good results and poor football. they seem to be looking for something heavenly that we might never find
