Saw jimmy James and the Vagabonds many times around the area in the early sixties, one night at a Rink all nighter, they did about four sets to cover for bands that went awol. They were tremendous value doing a wide range of music from blues to early Jamaican gospel/ska/reggae mixes , definitely one of these bands far better to see live than just here on record, that night they featured a tall elegant guy sharing vocals with Jimmy who was the epitome of cool, never found out who he was, as they just introduced him as "The Prince".
whenever Jimmy was on tried to see him had a great new years eve night in Seaham leisure center he was mint
He he played around the North East many times at various venues, I saw him mostly at the Cellar in South Shields were for a time he was almost the resident band. Just off topic, I saw Zoot Money and his band a few times, and they used to do a very similar set to Jimmy James. Great times.
