Jaysus some shops,as far as I can remember pool tables were in the bar but could be wrong.I remember Finsbury Park Tavern always got a great crowd for a Irish match and The Blackstock Arms had a landlord,a Kerry man who was mad as f**k but was decent man all the same would look after you if you were stuck.I lived beside the Plimsoll Arms for a few years and it changed to "Cead mile failte" or some such rubbish jumping on the cod Irish pub theme at the time,it didn't need to because the landlord was from Connemara and a gaelgoir, when he and his mates sat at the bar you never heard any english been spoken
The Gresham was name of the Irish dance-hall on Holloway Road, the one that's now Sainsbury's. Some ****ing dive that was. The Fox in Palmers Green is still a proper pub, though not nearly as rough as it was.
It was indeed. There was a big hall out the back and a small club for the younguns at the side. The main bit had a revolving stage. Which was mental. Another proper hole of a place. I heard the Fox is much better now since the new guy took over maybe 6 years ago? There was shootings and stabbings there all the time. I was in it there a couple of years back and it seemed pretty good.
The Tollington is ok but not when Arsenal are playing, still a smattering of Micks . I like it in the summer as it has a few benches outside with locked gates so kids can run about without getting out and run over... please log in to view this image
I never drank in the Plimsoll. No idea why. The Railway tavern on the other side of Finsbury Park had a mad Roscommon man running it. The sport was chasing commuters who needed a piss out of the pub. Rank rotten hole of a pub but I loved it.
The other one was the Crown in Cricklewood. That place was an absolute Dive of a place. The next thing someone has bought it and gentrified it and Millionaire Lottery winners are staying there. Mental. The old National in Kilburn got knocked and so did the Galtymore. There was another one in Kentish town long before my time.
Just up the road from the Harvist Estate. Used to be a hardcore Gooner pub even during the week. I'd noticed it'd been done up lately though.
I remember The Gresham but closed in my time and there was some rough shops on Holloway Road, they tried to change them and make them trendy for the students but it never worked. There was a pub halfway up Holloway Road, ran by a Galway bloke who had a share in a Grand National winner,he made the effort wouldn't take any messers and decent grub aswell, any ideas?
Tommy Flynns in Camden is quite cool... please log in to view this image There is one on Holloway rd but i have never been in it.
The Quays. Used to be called B Burke and Sons and then Bobby Burkes. The National Winner was Bobby jo. Way back when it was called the moon under water.
Didn't the owner of the Nag's Head have a share in Bobbyjo? Just down from the Odeon, on the other side of Holloway Road. Bobbyjo was trained by Tommy Carberry, in Galway I think.
The Enkle arms is pretty rough, full of Paddies and market traders.. You can get any narcotic known to man and guaranteed a punch up or glassing, plus it`s right next door to 3 bookies and plays horse racing all day on a projector.. please log in to view this image
That is him, same man. His son ran the Favourite in Hornsey till they knocked it and turned it into flats.
