Teams don't necessarily go forwards every season and with 'Arry being sacked despite doing well it doesn't mean we as fans consider anything less than last year an unacceptable failure. Since last season the team has changed, we lost King, VDV, Modric and (essentially) Kaboul from our first 11 last season to this so he had a fairly different team at his disposal. And who cares what you think is most likely anyway? You lost your house saying we'd finish at least 10 points behind Arsenal so save your crying about AVB for if we do actually finish 5th, or get less points than last season, or whatever else you judge the success and failure of AVB on.

I gave a pretty comprehensive answer but as you missed it I will post it again. Anyhting else you need help with? Well,lets look at the figures. We have more points,a higher position,have scored more and conceded less than last season. We have reduced the squad age considerably and have a European final to play. We have the excuse you used of a new manger so all in all it has been an improvement in league terms. Disappointing in other areas but when you make so many changes it wasn't so bad.

In your scenario the likelihood is that we would only have gone backwards in only league placing, due in main to Chelsea spunking huge amounts of money and improving (in the league). Our points tally, goals for, goals against, wins, defeats and draws are gonna be bloody similar. Also, we had a much improved run in Europe compared to the season before. On the other hand you will gain a handful of points and a couple of places but spunked a **** load of cash and meekly surrendered the CL crown you luckily won.
