Sky had their A1 experiment that failed badly.

News Corp will buy it and ruin it by playing adverts through it.

Why the **** isn't F1 considered a crown jewel event? The government obviously won't change this now Sky are interested because they won't want to anger Murdoch (as Gordon Brown did last year by trying to make the Ashes one).
 
Sarge, Hi, yes, but he is a greedy Australian in the singular, no reference was infered otherwise. No offence intended, simply stating a fact.

It will be easy for him to intercept the radio messages, he's had enough practice, must be an expert by now, allegedly.
 
Apparently Bernie E has denied these rumors, so we can all take deep breaths now.

No offence taken. I was just sticking up for non-greedy Aussies. <ok>
But the thought of Sky getting hold of my beloved F1 fills me with dread. I hate PPV TV and I absolutely hated the ITV adverts debacle, where we missed on average 20% of each race (equivalent to 12 laps of the old Silverstone). If Murdoch got his grubby little hands on our sport we'd have the very worst of both worlds.
 
They also don't tell you on many F1 sites that the FIA and F1 teams can veto this move anyway if in fear of prick features ruining the spectacle for the fans. British F1 fans always backed the British teams since they started, so how many of those teams in F1 would gladly veto this move? Red Bull, McLaren, Williams, Renault, lotus, Force India, Mercedes GP, "Virgin" all british based, all backed by us supporting them.
 
For what it's worth, I will never subscribe to PPV and particularily SKY, its' beginning to be proven a dishonerable and subversive business producing third rate products. Its not all about profits.
 
If F1 goes PPV then so should the euro and world cup. Why do i have to accept football being free while over half the ****ing grid is british based in F1. The f1 teams have more respect for their country and fans then those overpaid ****ers who can't even score 1 goal... F1 has it's legends like football Senna=Pele, Fangio=Maradona, Prost=Zidane, Clark=Bobby and many more for christ sakes! Why is the world cup so different to the F1, It's worldwide ffs....

Make F1 a crown jewel ffs and tell Murdoch to drop dead
 
To my knowledge, the current concorde agreement between the teams and FIA agrees that the races should be shown on free-to-view tv everywhere possible, and whilst this runs out in 2012, BBC have a deal until 2013, so no changes just yet.

And I think the point of that clause is that the teams and the commercial rights holder understand that their sponsors want maximum exposure, which they wouldn't get on PPV.
 
I've just read up on it, and it's just some greedy bastards trying to own everything. For once, I'm on Bernie's side, surelyt if someone wantas to buy F1, it goes through him first? and he's in favour of the teams agreement to make F1 free-to-view where possible, so why would he sell it?

Sky are terrible, even though they have all those channels. I don't want to buy a sports package if I want motorsport, I don't want a pointless nature and knowledge packages, just good ol' TV with the proper channels and good TV progams. As SilverArrow said most of the teams are British based, so why don't we get all things F1? Also, why have Sky got the Premier League if it is British (not that I care about football that much)?
 
The FIA has the right to veto against any potential buyer, so they could stop Murdoch if they wanted to. I don't think it will happen, F1 on PPV would die. Far less people would watch it which would mean far less exposure for the sponsors, this would result in a lot of sponsors pulling out. A lot of the teams rely on sponsorship to survive, without the funding the teams would pull out. No teams = no F1.

Like I said, the FIA can veto on any potential buyer. I don't think we need to worry about this.
