We had Gibbs and we didn't really need a starting LB. Just one to push him. I'd rather have Monreal and Gibbs than Enrique and L'Pool's other LB.
I am not really bothered. I think those people that think changing the manager will make much of a difference are dreaming. These hordes of players that are just lining up to play for us that will make us better than Manchester United or Chelsea or Man City are just not there. We keep hearing about hoy Dembele or Ba or Cisse or Dempsey are such a huge upgrade and then a few months later they drop off a cliff and no one mentions them again. Fact is we are always going to be picking second. It is a fact of life. I don't think Mourinho picking second is going to be a whole lot better than Wenger picking second. Just because you change the manager doesn't mean the finances change.
WUM thread. Check the author's posts on the spud board to see his true colours when talking about Arsenal.
Nope. But it does mean the coaching and tactics change, and that alone would be a huge improvement, even with an identical squad.
On balance, I think he should stay. I personally don't believe that the reasons why RVP, Fabregas, Nasri, etc left your club are down to Wenger - For that, I think you need to look higher up. I sense that Kronke, like most yanks, is more interested in money than the success of the club. I'm sure the reason these key players left is because they sensed, or they knew that Wenger's hands were tied. It's certainly not to say that Wenger is perfect - far from it. But you don't just go from being a top manager to a run of the mill manager, just like that without some good reason. I suspect that good reason is the board & major shareholder(s)
Football changed, Wenger stubbornly refuses to. He was 8 years ahead when he arrived. Slowly, the rest of the league caught up, and he's now 8 years behind the times. That's a very good reason for his decline. He has lost his "market leader"-style innovative edge and is now hugely reactionary instead of progressive.
Problem is, if/when Wenger goes it will be a massive gap for the next manager to fill? A bit like Fergie at Man U.
@Wengers Optition Fans like you get on my nerves more than most. You go on about how we should have signed X Y and Z and how Wenger is an idiot for not doing so etc etc... But actually the players you mention are **** and would have been a waste of money. Enrique is a prime example, he isn't even wanted at Liverpool anymore. I think some fans actually believe they have an eye for talent and could be football scouts, when in reality several of the signings that our fans are desperate for end up being crap signings for the teams those players go to.
What did I say at the very start of the Chavs thread. A chav is always gonna be a chav. You think this idiot gives a shot about our opinion. He just wanted to create a bad atmosphere and make us argue among ourselves. Mission complete. Round of applause to the Chav. As they say in Thailand, chavs and spuds.... Same same but different.
