What a ****ing farce. He should have went straight to the monitor for a full replay before making a tit of himself. Shambles.
Surely checking before issuing the red card would have been prudent but yes impressed he withdrew the red.
Oh aye it was an inexplicable balls up, fair play to him for not taking the easy option and making himself look a fool to get the right decision though.
I've just watched the analysis of it and even the explanation doesn't make sense. The ref isn't even looking at Emerson Royal, he only knows there was contact to the face because he sees Royal holding his face, not because he saw the incident. Ridiculous decision to produce the card in the first place, especially as Royal was more aggressive in the first place.
He could have given nothing and let VAR inform him if something was missed. Or he could have given the red and VAR inform him to review it again. If he'd given a yellow, VAR would have still informed him if he'd made an error, so I don't see how he had to give the red.
Absolutely ridiculous not to look at a replay first. No idea what Hasselbaink was banging on about...."well done ref but another ref would have sent him off" talk about having spelks in your arse, get off the ****ing fence. Awful match so far, officiating is at an all time low in this country.
On second thought, it was a good goal but Kepa should have got a stronger hand to it possibly and the defending from Thiago Silva in the build up was poor.
That's fine, but the ref could have given a yellow and then VAR could have suggested he takes another look if he got it wrong.
VAR: "Hey ref, give the wrong decision and then we will correct it for you because we can't tell you to give the right decision straight away" ****ing laughing stock
