The bloke has one style of football and completely the wrong players for that system. He either has no idea how to play any other way or is unbelievably stubborn. It was a completely wrong appointment
To be fair to him every managerial appointment there for the last decade has looked bad, the club is just toxic. If they believe he’s the man to take them forward they need to make a real effort to shift the ****e and back him with players he knows will fit his system. Changing managers every other season for short term gain and asking them to get something out of honking players like Hojlund isn’t going to get them anywhere
He's taken a bad team and made them worse. Mainly through his stubborn insistence on playing a system that doesn't suit the players he has in the squad. My wife, who has no interest in football at all asked tonight why/how Man Utd are so terrible - I tried to explain how each manager they have appointed has made them worse and how they have wasted millions and millions of pounds on big name players who have no interest in playing for them. Ferguson was an irresistible force in football, but the drop off in the last 12 years has been stunning.
Still way better than spurs tonight by all accounts! If not for a moment of brilliance from the defender! Probably still taking penalties now at 0-0! 2 utterly terrible sides! Utterly terrible game. Utd have looked a good side in that competition until today, when they were ****e!
Hojlund is so so bad mind they need someone to put the ball in the net desperately, especially in that system where you’re not really playing for possession. I don’t know how on earth he’s still getting a game. Their Europa league results last few rounds have been good but if you look into them it’s not quite what it seems - the last rounds they’ve played against 10 men. In the Semi the red card totally changed the game at Bilbao and the game was done. Second leg Bilbao didn’t even bother sending their best players. The Lyon game they were 2 goals up against 10 men and conceded twice then managed to score twice in the 120th minute to snatch the win. And Sociedad game at OT they got 2 penalties then Sociedad got a red card. I think they actually got a third penalty after that. Some crazy headlosses have made them look better than they were in that competition imo.
Disagree with this mind. Spurs did their job, defended well and were a threat on the counter. Man Utd couldn't break them down. Was similar to our games vs Coventry to be honest.
Patterson made 2 saves in 2 games. Spurs keeper made 3 or 4 (not decent, but where they should’ve been). Thought Utd were way more dangerous, if they had a striker then they’d have won tonight imo. Zirksee and Hojlund nowhere near good enough, not to mention the unbelievable clearance by Van der whatever
Spurs had 3 shots totalling 1.01 xG, Man Utd had 16 totalling 0.85. Spurs were miles better, still not great but miles better.
Funny looking at Man Utd fans expecting a clearout this summer. Apart from Saudi, who on earth is going to pay the wages some of these horrendous players are on? Only player in that team who could maybe get into an elite European team is Bruno and i'm on the fence on that. With no European football who can they attract either? Think it'll be a very similar squad next season and another poor campaign.
I think the twat part is why he probably wouldn't get a good move. He's the wrong kind of twat if you get me every team needs a Pepe or a Roy Keane, Bruno is more just someone i'd be embarrassed to see his behaviour in a SAFC shirt
he should he blames the lack of players to play his system play a way to get points and results then it’s pathetic he hasn’t changed his ways to achieve results and can’t just blame the fact he doesn’t have players to play his way
The issue United have now is if they stick with him they need ti back him. If he is as bad as he is they'll be sacking before the year is out and then there next appointment really needs to play the same system/formation. If they back him they'll be signing players that fit into his system so would need the next manager to do similar otherwise there'll be another big overhaul of the squad I think losing last night might be a blessing for them, they can now just focus on the league and actually challenging the top 5 again. They need a massive window and need to nail their signings but I do think he might do alright next season (he can't get any worse can he)
