A good win for ROI tonight but they really should’ve been more competitive in that group. Finished 9 points behind Portugal and Serbia…

think it was said it was the 4th game played there, really nice looking stadium but expected more capacity than sub 10k (15k for concerts, apparently)

our defending does not look so bad now after watching that game mind, never seen as many mistakes at the back in one game.

I thought Ireland got away with that decision earlier for their goal, I thought Duffy went down a bit easy tbh.

agreed, there was 'contact' which these days seems to be enough although they did fake a lot of fouls along the way so it kind of evens it out i guess.

One of the worst things about modern football is the phrase "felt contact so was entitled to go down". It's ruined the game as a spectacle

another 'pundit special' to protect the over protected...similar to 'ball to hand', watch any game pre-sky and the referee was hardly noticed these days they are very much the center of attention due to multi angle cameras and pundit scrutiny, as you say it ruins the game.

Football needs to strip back the bullshit and remember what these rules were invented for

Hand ball - has the player played the ball with his hand to gain an advantage such as controlling the ball in possession or stopping the opponent getting past?
Offside - is the player closer to the goal in order to gain an advantage?
Penalties/Free Kicks - has the player been tripped/pushed/tackled unfairly?

Keep it simple, none of this "felt contact" or having the tip of your nose offside.

    100%!!

been saying the exact same thing for ages now, they keep complicating what are actually simple rules, only reason i can think of or see in practice is that it allows a little bit of 'grey area' so decisions can go for or against depending on which teams are playing.

John Motson was the first I remember saying that (Arsenal player IIRC) He lost all credibility for me and I never listened to him again

Does anyone else think we could get together and probably put a team out to beat San Marino?
