So according to NW, Bobby Reid isn't a striker then - so what is he? Why did we pay £10M for a striker who isn't one?

Having him on the bench we might have well not bothered, added another 10 mill and gone for a recognised striker who Neil believes really is one, and we wouldn't have a problem up front.

Any thoughts?
 
He's like a 15 year old trying to play in an under 18 team.

Lost every 50 50 ball, passing poor, easily muscled off the ball, no point in putting it in the air anywhere near him.

No redeeming features at present.
 
Very good question Sparks. I would look more at a 4 2 3 1 with Hoilett (if fit), Arter and Murphy playing behind Zohore. If Hoilett not fit then Harris or possibly Reid in the wide position.

What last night showed is that the squad has little depth. It was an opportunity for a number to step up but, to a man, no one did.

I'm with you on the formation blue.
Ralls/Camarasa and Arter in front of the back 4, Murphy Reid Hoilett/Harris with Ken up front.

Alternatively, Ward behind Ken and Reid on the right. Thinking I might prefer that.

Can Arter or Camerasa play on the right?

Not sure about some of these modern ideas of formations - I'll stick to one of the "old style" setups - 4 at the back, 3 in the middle and 3 up front.

The back 4 and middle 3 speak for themselves. Manga, Morro, Bamba and Bennett with Ralls, Camarasa and Arter in front of them - I can't see that changing.

In front of them is the problem. We'll need to persevere with Zohore - he has just got to come good, but he'll need support. It's got to be Reid in the hole with just one out wide to provide the width and pace. Murphy is the obvious one for me - Hoilett even if fit has been well off the boil.

I'm not usually one for new fangled gizmos Sparkey.

Just trying to think of a way of giving some cover to the defence while getting some support to the one up top and without our midfield getting over run.

Maybe 12 on the pitch is the way forward?

I think it's more about having the ability to adjust your formation during a game to suit circumstances.

You can start out with what you like, but you have to be able to "morph" your system when needs must.

Having been on Holidays I didn't see the Bournemouth game, only got to see the Newcastle game on sky in a bar and didn't see or hear the Huddersfield game at all. My question is though - Is Zohore just not 100% fit or is he as bad as everyone is reporting?

From what I've seen, it's a combination of both lack of match fitness (sharpness) and confidence. Though hes not shown it yet, he's got the pace over the ground and the skills to play on it, but for all his physical size and 6'3" height, he's like a wet flannel in the air.

Maybe that's all down to confidence, but he'll have to start throwing his weight around before long because he's being mugged by defenders at the moment.

It's also fair to say he's had little support from those around him - that's usually no one within 20 yards. He needs someone with to give defenders something to think about because as it is, he's being picked off on his own.
 
Paterson should not start. He’s a passenger at this level. Bench fodder.
Reid to play in number 10 slot. Murphy out wide. Injuries to NML & Hoilett should save NW the job of which winger to drop to allow Reid to start.

That's my team I posted earlier above only set up as a 4-4-2 instead of my more adventurous 4-3-3....<whistle>

Murphy needs to play further forward against a team like Arsenal who are no great shakes defensively - especially when we're at home.

Sitting back and waiting for a break is going to be suicide against quality in this division. It's an old cliche, but on this occasion especially, the best form of defence really is attack.

My formation is more 4-4-1-1 than 4-4-2.
 
I'm not confident Reid is up to it yet. Too lightweight, first touch has not been great and some is his awareness and passing has been poor.

Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't most of his Wurzel goals in the first two thirds of last season followed by something of a drought as Johnson messed around with their formation.

I'm not saying he doesn't have the ability to improve but I've not been impressed with what I have seen so far hence my suggestion to use Arter in a more forward role. He has pace, the ability to go past people and a good shot to boot.

We don't have many options as we saw on Tuesday and taking into account our injury situation so got to make do with what we have.

P.S. Best to allow more time to get in on Sunday. There is a 10k race around the city centre from 10.00am going into Riverside and Pontcana before returning to the centre. I believe they have over 10,000 entrants. Many will be done and dusted by 11.00 although it will take another 45 minutes to an hour to clear the area. However the slower entrants could take 2 hours plus and will need another hour to get clear. Inevitably this will see congestion around the city and at train/bus stations until early afternoon. Just trying to be helpful!!!
