Pilks was up for the chase after he came on. Know it was a shorter shift than Ken, but he was up for it.
Thought there were glimpses of good interplay on our side but man city were clever in defence as well as attack.
Would like to know what medication NML is on as I wouldn't mind a puff. Has he been near your stash Aber?
 
man city walked it - but we do of course have to have a sense of perspective as they have smashed teams in the league above to pieces.

i think zohore was tired or at least realised that chasing down a back four on his own was completely pointless when his team mates didnt want to press high. if we had it could have been 6 or 7.
 
Man City have beaten 20+ teams by 2 or more goals this season, so we are in good company.

Real Madrid, Spurs, WHU, BHA, Liverpool, Feyenoord, Watford, Crystal Palace, FC Shakhtar Donetsk, Stoke, Burnley, Napoli, Arsenal, Leicester, Swansea, Spurs, Bournmouth, Watford, Burnley, Newcastle, Cardiff.


Not forgetting Wolves
 
I still can't fathom the thinking. So losing by 2 goals is better than losing by 6 or 7 as long as we play like scared rabbits in awe of the mighty Citeh?

We played as though we were afraid of being embarrassed by what they could do to us and as a result they did it by less goals - is that the answer?

I still come back to County's attitude and performance against Spurs. They had a go and got their rewards - something we didn't deserve.

The criticism of Zohore was a direct result of the tactics employed throughout the game even after we went behind. The bloke was left chasing the proverbial shadows across the top end of the pitch with little or no support.

Everyone dived back behind halfway every time they got the ball in their half and it pissed Zohore off. Kompany, Bravo and a couple of others toyed with us with no response - if anything that was more bloody embarrassing than shipping an extra couple of goals through having a go at them.

We're out that's all that matters - 2-0 or 6-0. Except for the record books, WTF does it matter what the score was?
 
Yep. I don't agree Sparks. While the stats say otherwise 2.0 wasn't the pasting it could have been.

What would a 6 or 7 goal thrashing have done for morale?

Colin had a game plan and they stuck to it. The first goal took the wind out of everyone's sails but they kept persevering and could have had one or two with a bit of luck. Yes, if all had gone the Mancs way they could have notched another couple but for good work by Etheridge and Morrison.

However 2.0 was no disgrace, the team know they haven't got to play anyone else with that ability this season and with players like Gunnar and Bryson returning to fitness plus the prospect of signing a striker who has a closer relationship with the back of the net, surely the squad confidence will be on the up as the next vital stage of the season approaches?

It would have taken all of Colin's skills and more to lift everyone after a real drubbing.

I also think the applause from the crowd after the final whistle, returned by the team, spoke volumes.

I didn't think we did that bad tbh...hence the applause at the final whistle as bfb just pointed out..........yes we didn't have the go like i would have liked but still we created a few chances against a machine of a team........anyways only thy league position is on thy plate now and im happy 2 go out 2 the eventual winners <laugh>
 
That's a fair enough opinion Bluey. In other words we went out there to lose it and not concede too many goals. <ok>

The "ifs" about had Ken got hold of a couple of those shots properly and "if" their keeper had dropped Hoilett's specualtive shot over the line instead of redeeming himself we might have had a different story is a bit hollow.

The fact was that although they are a mega class above us, they were never put under any pressure. Bristol City did just that in the Carabao and stuck a couple in to get back to 2-2. OK they lost the game with a Man City injury time winner but at least they had a bloody go at them.

I don't see anything positive in keeping the scoreline down. If you lose you lose and you're out - that is all that matters. If we had been drubbed by 6 or 7 there is the belief that it would be difficult to lift the players for the next Championship game - I don't believe that at all.

Leeds up there will be all that is needed on the day whatever happened against Man City last Sunday.

For sure, the next game and the ones after etc, are the most important. In reality, the cup was just a sideshow.

Best to put it behind us and move on. Get Sol back to perform against his old club. Jazz to left back and Manga back to right (not sure that is for the best but no options with Bennett suspended and Pelts still out). Does the Knife play right back? <yikes>

Same midfield. Grujic will have more time and, after all, Sunday was only his second game for us. Paterson will enjoy another physical confrontation - I can see him becoming a cult hero. And Joe can pull the strings. Unless we get a new striker then the only change in the front 3 could be Wildschut for NML.

It's great to talk would have been sensible to say to BT but not to BfB!!!!
It is always difficult to call this one, Sparkey. They went out with a plan and tried to execute. The plan might have been a bit conservative and got knocked off kilter but it was the plan. On another day, the plan could have worked and a couple of 'ifs' and we would be oh so proud. But once they had a plan, I am afraid I do not have much faith in football players to change things on the hop. As a set, they are hardly the sharpest knives in the box. SO! NW went with one plan, your BCFC chappie went another way. It's a matter of in whom you have the most faith. I'm with our chap. We weren't embarrassed and there's something there to pick up on and take forward.
To an extent, I blame myself...... I got onto the beeb just before they scored, then watched till they scored again. I left and no more scores. I'm a jinx. It's the same when I rarely (luckily) get to a match.

Agree Bluey - all I can say for sure is that the next game will be an event rather than a non event........<whistle>

More often than not, when a club gets knocked out of the Cup, supporters tend to say not a bad thing because now we can concentrate on the league. That isn't necessarily sour grapes - it often makes crystal clear sense.

The next 18 Championship games will determine our future, not a one off cup game against Man City. <ok>

The wurzels HAD to give it a go; it was a semi final in which they were losing on aggregate so they had no option but to go for it.

As for the Spurs v Cewnty comparison I don’t buy it. Spurs had half a team out in first half, the pitch was terrible and it was a game of two halves due to the wind. Spurs didn’t have the pace of KDB, Sane, Sterling & Gunduigan in midfield nor Walker overlapping.

Thing is that Newport scored first. City easily could have been 1 up if ML hadn’t messed up his cross early doors.

So the 3 games you’ve cited cannot be specifically compared; it’s not like comparing apples to pears.

Apples and pears don't come into it - it's all football.

We all have opinions but it comes down to attitude of the players on the pitch and the management that send them out there. <ok>
 
Lets not pretend MC couldn't have put double figures on us if we'd pressed high and left space. We're not even close to good enough in possession and we're too slow all over the park to deal with them.
They scored 3 and it took an x rated challenge to stop Sane from probably adding another and we were in all out defence mode.

They're different class to Spurs so I don't accept the comparison with County. If Spurs had picked Son, Ali, and Erikson to start it would be a fairer comparison (and probably a very different night for County).
Even with those 3 and Kane MC are a different class. Spurs were pedestrian with Loreinte having an incredible game for County <laugh> He broke up more Spurs attacks than any County defender.

We needed Pep to send a b/c side to have a chance. He actually went pretty much full strength. We could play that match 100 times and imo we'd lose it 100 times the gap is just too big.
