Plenty of reminders from BRR and Wize and others. I would also add Jack Boxley, Jantzen Derrick, and don't forget that Clive Whitehead played enough times on the left wing to qualify. I know it is very difficult to make comparisons between different decades and also the fact that four different League divisions are involved. My way of making a judgement between them is to "mark them" according to how consistently well they played, how long they played for City, would they have been a "first on the teamsheet" or an afterthought, and how the crowd of the time responded to them. So after much deliberation, my choice is the one I started with; ALAN WALSH
Alan Walsh for me, tough decision as I always liked Dave Smith, wish he started his career a lot younger wasn't he something like 26-28 before he got spotted, and made it as a professional?
In the 80's I lived in Shrewsbury and while I always went to City's home games and many away all over the country, I also went to a lot of Shrews home games. So when City played at the Gay Meadow, I went in the home end where I normally stood with a few friends. So you can imagine the fun when Dave Smith scored the winner a couple of minutes from time. No problems with hooligans or violence; just half a dozen mates trying to sit on me to keep me quiet. And after the game we went in a pub near the ground where Larry Lloyd's brother was landlord. Some good banter in amongst the beer!
It has to be Alan Walsh for me, a great player and nice bloke, very sorry to see him leave the club. Not really sure McIndoe should make the team, he only had 1 good season, but his terrible attitude overshadowed his ability for me.
We could have had Tinman in this category as well As he's already in centre mid I'll go for Alan Walsh ahead of Jimmy Mann and McIndoe Ps can't believe no-one has mentioned Wooly!!!
Tough this one between clive whitehead and alan walsh very tough decision I have to go with whitehead him skimming past the best in the first division was a joy to watch.
Alan Walsh by far. David smith 'took over' from Walsh, with Mark Gavin on the right, and was part of my favourite City team. IMO mcindoe not fit to clean either of their boots. 'young' fans unfortunately have not experienced how good our left wingers used to be
