I think the rub is this. Nolan is happy with his move because it obviously suites his needs at this time. However, his demands were too expensive for us considering his age and abilities and we believe that we can find a replacement who can do the same for less. We also recovered most of the capital we paid on him so we can put it towards a replacement. So as a club it is a necessary deal for us financially.

We should part as friends and move on with our lives. Good luck Nolan and thanks for the memories! Now which exciting talent are we going to get to replace him?

    This.

Not being funny but how many times have we fans bemoaned the fact that when we are chasing a game and need to change things up we've had to resort to Smith or Guthrie? Now we could be looking to the bench and potentially seeing Gosling, Jonas, Barnetta, people who potentially could change the game.

Granted, Nolan did well, but 2 goals since Carroll departed shows what his role was. For me, next season if we were looking to snatch a point or win and we looked to the bench i'd wanna send out someone with flair who could create something rather than hoping Nolan can get on the end of a knockdown. Sounds harsh but it's fair.

Aye, I read this ndall, but where has this info come from? MsiDouglas?

Although I reckon there'll be a couple of elements of truth in there it wouldn't surprise me IN THE SLIGHTEST if this was info 'leaked' from the club in order to subdue disappointed/disillusioned fans - until I get solid quotes from someone senior stating that that was the case and Nolan DID turn down THAT offer, then I'm gunna take it all with a pinch of salt!

Rep!!! That's exactly how I see it. Nolan would have stayed but thought our terms were a bit off (which I think they were but understand why), so he thought he'd sign a better contract at another club where he could end up being a hero

It's all over the place, every major and minor newspaper or news outlet confirmed it. Do you not think it's odd that with all the rumours flying round that if Kev was that devoted to the club he would've admitted whether he did or didn't reject the contract? At least Barton has admitted he turned his down and was then told he wouldnt be getting another.

He went because it was apparent that the club wanted him to go. End of. The rest is posturing, ie., we offered him a good deal but he was a greedy bastard. Is this the greedy bastard who paid for the players' end of season party out of his own pocket.

The No1 reason that people move jobs is not money, as you might think. It's lack of appreciation by the employer. I can't remember what nos 2 and 3 are, but money is only no 4. Also, one is not a footballer longer than one is a footballer. Who amongst us would not do the best for the financial security of you and your young family? Only an idiot, which of course most of us fans are when it comes to our club (including myself)

In the Keegan Tribunal case, it was found that the club deliberately lied to the supporters. What makes you think anything has changed since? Nothing has, just Ashley is a bit more savvy now in PR matters, through his mouthpiece Pardew.

I refuse to accept a "hatchet job" being carried out on Nobby, whether it is by the club or by fickle fans. He was our leader in hard times, and an inspiration to the younger players. And who will forget his hat trick against the mackems, and the hilarious chicken dance, in front of the fans. I certainly won't. Mick Martin is right to call him an icon.

We have to move on, from this, as there is nothing we can do about it. Lets hope that we don't end up with a load of foreign players, who we've never heard of, but who look good on two minutes of UTube. As for me, I have learnt, over the years, following the toon, to hope for the best, but expect the worst.

You know what, it takes two to tango. The club offered him a new deal - not one of us can know for sure what kind of length, wages, incentives it included. Nolan didnt like what the club were offering - again, not one of us can know exactly what length, wages, incentives Nolan was after.

The club said take it or leave it. Nolan went for 'leave it' and toys were ejected from the respective prams.

Meanwhile I would not be surprised in the slightest if fat arse Allardyce's former captain fantastic at Bolton had tipped him off about the break down in contract negotiations and the resulting unrest.

Bob's your uncle, fanny's your auntie - a nice £4.5m for the club and a nice juicy sit on your backside and do nothing for 5 years contract for Nolan.

Thanks for the memories, Kev. It was a pleasure.

Although I'm clearly disgruntled about this whole fiasco, I 100% agree with this. Well said, man <ok>

To be fair all these people questioning his need to consider his financial future, the more you earn the more you spend and footballers (and all high earners) get taxed to ****.

Who is betting he will get an England call up next season being in a London club?

    I wouldn't be surprised....

Yes but most also use every financial loophole or offer to minimise the tax expense as well. Believe me those who try find ways to reduce their bill considerably and those who don't still have more than enough left to keep them financially secure for the rest of their lives.
