It's a joke that no local lads are taking part in the Derby game for us, theres plenty of kids good enough to make it through to the first team at Liverpool with the right coaching and manager but they seem to end up over the park at Everton these days.

Buying in youth players from other parts of the country and abroad seems to be the norm at LFC these days.

Rossiter isn't in the PL squad.

It's a shame there's no scousers in there, would have been if Flanno was fit <ok>

The away fans will have a greater affinity to players outside of Liverpool.

Is having local/passionate players that important? Rodgers is fully immersed in the history of the club so will inspire to a certain victory

Not going to start is he.

The piece was about not having a Scouser in the starting XI for a derby.

I was only thinking the same the other day, yet another example of how PL clubs are losing their sense of local identity.

The Liverpool team has always had a central core of scousers, the fact it now hasn't didn't slip my notice as I've said it on here many times. As Page rightly said, it's a joke that we are going into a derby for the first time in nearly 30 years with no local lads. 1986 we had Ablett, Lee and McMahon and between us and Everton, scousers ruled the league.

I think it's more to do with managerial decisions than club policy, but there's no way ALL of our imported youths are better than some playing amateur in the Liverpool/Merseyside area.

Jimmy Case was 19 when he caught the LFC scouts eye at South Liverpool.

Happy to say the scouts eye got better and LFC and Jimmy went on to better things.

Go and look after the kids while the adults discuss this weekends games.
Unless you disagree that Rodgers has immersed himself in the history of LFC.

Getting the original Anfield tunnel sign out of a skip is a story I will tell my grandchildren about

It is a strange scenario. You'd think that FSG's policy of uncovering young talent would lend itself to local lads. I mean how much cheaper can you get? With the added bonus that they are more likely to come to the club rather than go elsewhere.

As Tobes says it's a general problem in the PL but I find it a strange one. Surely it's cheaper to try and develop local talent than it is to find it elsewhere, bring it in at 14/15 and develop that?

Yeah but it takes time, FSG havent been with us that long in the grand scheme of things

But also if the local talent isnt there, then its just not there

Gerrard needed to have a boy! Not 20 girls or whatever it is. Noticed Carras lad was a ball boy V Villa

  19. I think it's more a case of demand of instant success. Top teams haven't got time to let players develop, they have to hit the ground running or they fail.

Its not entirely in the managers interest to develop youngsters either. Houllier gets the credit for Gerrard and Carra but they came though the youth system whilst the Frenchmen wasn't there and Rafa got the main benefit! Brod got the benefit of Sterling but it was Rafa or Kenny (possibly both) that got him. Basically, by the time youngsters develop, the managers been booted if the clubs not been successful.

Question then; what current scouse players plying their trade in the professional leagues would you guys like to see in the Liverpool team?
